Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes sending information configured to render a virtual room on a display device associated with a user, wherein the virtual room comprises a visual representation of the user and a virtual mirror that displays a virtual reflection of the visual representation of the user; receiving a first input from the user selecting a visible feature on the visual representation of the user; presenting one or more alternative options to the user, each of the alternative options corresponding to a variation of the selected visible feature; and receiving a second input from the user selecting a particular alternative option corresponding to a particular variation of the selected visible feature; and causing the visual representation of the user to be modified such that the particular variation of the selected visible feature is implemented.

Claims (63)

1 . A method comprising, by a computing system:

sending information configured to render a virtual room on a display device associated with a user, wherein the virtual room comprises a visual representation of the user and a virtual mirror that displays a virtual reflection of the visual representation of the user;

receiving a first input from the user selecting a visible feature on the visual representation of the user;

presenting one or more alternative options to the user, each of the alternative options corresponding to a variation of the selected visible feature; and

receiving a second input from the user selecting a particular alternative option corresponding to a particular variation of the selected visible feature; and

causing the visual representation of the user to be modified such that the particular variation of the selected visible feature is implemented.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

accessing a social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each of the edges between two of the nodes representing a single degree of separation between them, the nodes comprising:

a first node corresponding to the user; and

a plurality of second nodes, each corresponding to an image content associated with the user; and

generating an initial visual representation of the user based on the image content.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the image content is a photo or video in which the user is tagged.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the image content is a photo or video that has been identified as a profile picture or a profile video of the user.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the visible feature on the visual representation comprises eyes, a nose, a mouth, hair, skin color a jaw line, facial hair, or a body type.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting one or more accessories to the user;

receiving a third input from the user selecting a particular accessory; and

causing the visual representation of the user to be modified such that the visual representation of the user wears the particular accessory.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting one or more virtual tools to the user;

receiving a third input from the user selecting a particular virtual tool;

receiving an input from the user to modify a visible feature of the visual representation of the user using the particular virtual tool; and

modifying the visible feature of the user.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the one or more virtual tools comprises a virtual hair-dryer tool, a virtual hair-straightener tool, a virtual curling-iron tool, a virtual hair gel, a virtual makeup, a virtual hair dye, a virtual shaving cream, a virtual beard trimmer, a virtual razor, or a virtual hair-growing cream.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the particular virtual tool is manipulated by a controller device associated with the user.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting one or more virtual magazines, wherein the virtual magazines include a plurality of style templates, wherein each style template specifies one or more visible features that are modeled on an image of the visual representation of the user, the image being displayed on a virtual page of the virtual magazine;

receiving a fourth input from the user selecting a particular style template; and

causing the visual representation of the user to be modified.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computing system comprises a remote server.

12 . One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:

send information configured to render a virtual room on a display device associated with a user, wherein the virtual room comprises a visual representation of the user and a virtual mirror that displays a virtual reflection of the visual representation of the user;

receive a first input from the user selecting a visible feature on the visual representation of the user;

present one or more alternative options to the user, each of the alternative options corresponding to a variation of the selected visible feature; and

receive a second input from the user selecting a particular alternative option corresponding to a particular variation of the selected visible feature; and

cause the visual representation of the user to be modified such that the particular variation of the selected visible feature is implemented.

13 . The media of claim 12 , wherein the software is further operable when executed to:

access a social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each of the edges between two of the nodes representing a single degree of separation between them, the nodes comprising:

a first node corresponding to the user; and

a plurality of second nodes, each corresponding to an image content associated with the user; and

generate an initial visual representation of the user based on the image content.

14 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the image content is a photo or video in which the user is tagged.

15 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the image content is a photo or video that has been identified as a profile picture or a profile video of the user.

16 . The media of claim 12 , further comprising:

presenting one or more accessories to the user;

receiving a third input from the user selecting a particular accessory; and

causing the visual representation of the user to be modified such that the visual representation of the user wears the particular accessory.

17 . The media of claim 12 , further comprising:

presenting one or more virtual tools to the user;

receiving a third input from the user selecting a particular virtual tool;

receiving an input from the user to modify a visible feature of the visual representation of the user using the particular virtual tool; and

modifying the visible feature of the user.

18 . The media of claim 17 , wherein the particular virtual tool is manipulated by a controller device associated with the user.

19 . The media of claim 12 , further comprising:

presenting one or more virtual magazines, wherein the virtual magazines include a plurality of style templates, wherein each style template specifies one or more visible features that are modeled on an image of the visual representation of the user, the image being displayed on a virtual page of the virtual magazine;

receiving a fourth input from the user selecting a particular style template; and

causing the visual representation of the user to be modified.

20 . A system comprising: one or more processors; and a non-transitory memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors operable when executing the instructions to:

send information configured to render a virtual room on a display device associated with a user, wherein the virtual room comprises a visual representation of the user and a virtual mirror that displays a virtual reflection of the visual representation of the user;

receive a first input from the user selecting a visible feature on the visual representation of the user;

present one or more alternative options to the user, each of the alternative options corresponding to a variation of the selected visible feature; and

receive a second input from the user selecting a particular alternative option corresponding to a particular variation of the selected visible feature; and

cause the visual representation of the user to be modified such that the particular variation of the selected visible feature is implemented.
