Abstract

Presenting a marking element in a social networking interaction where the marking element includes a question specifier and an answer specifier, creating a knowledge element in response to a user activating the marking element on the social networking interaction or a portion thereof, and presenting a knowledge element indicator in the social networking interaction.

Claims (44)

1. A method for capturing and managing knowledge from social networking interactions comprising:

presenting a marking element in a social networking interaction, wherein:

said marking element is a visual interface element that allows a user to mark a message of the social networking interaction with at least one of a question specifier and an answer specifier;

said question specifier indicates that the user found a message to include a question; and

said answer specifier indicates that the user found a message to include an answer;

creating a knowledge element in response to a user specifying a message of the social networking interaction to be a question and specifying another message of the social networking interaction to be an answer; and

storing said knowledge element in a catalog of knowledge elements.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising presenting a knowledge element indicator to accompany a corresponding message in said social networking interaction, which knowledge element indicator indicates whether said corresponding message corresponds to at least one of the group consisting of a question and an answer.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the knowledge element indicates multiple users that have marked a corresponding message with a question specifier.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the knowledge element indicates multiple users that have marked a corresponding message with an answer specifier.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the knowledge element includes information about portions of the social networking interaction on which marking elements were activated.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the knowledge element includes a pointer to the message.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising recommending a knowledge element corresponding to an answer, responsive to a user comprising a message that includes a question.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising recommending a knowledge element corresponding to an answer, responsive to a user comprising a message that answers a question.

9. A method for capturing and managing knowledge from social networking interactions comprising:

presenting a marking element in a social networking interaction, wherein:

said marking element is a visual interface element that allows a user to mark a message of the social networking interaction with at least one of a question specifier and an answer specifier;

said question specifier indicates that the user found a message to include a question; and

said answer specifier indicates that the user found a message to include an answer;

creating a knowledge element in response to a user specifying a message of the social networking interaction to be a question and specifying another message of the social networking interaction to be an answer;

presenting a knowledge element indicator to accompany a corresponding message in said social networking interaction, which knowledge element indicator indicates whether said corresponding message corresponds to at least one of the group consisting of a question and an answer; and

storing said knowledge element in a catalog of knowledge elements.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the knowledge element includes information about portions of the social networking interaction on which marking elements were activated.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

the knowledge element indicator comprises a submitter indicator indicating the user who marked the message as a question and an answer;

the user is not a participant in the social networking interaction.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the knowledge element includes a pointer to the message.

13. A method for capturing and managing knowledge from social networking interactions comprising:

presenting a marking element in a social networking interaction, wherein said marking element allows a user to specify whether a corresponding message corresponds to at least one member of a group consisting of a question and an answer;

receiving a first user selection indicating a first portion of said social networking interaction as pertaining to a question;

receiving a second user selection indicating a second portion of said social networking interaction as pertaining to an answer;

creating a knowledge element in response to a user activating said marking element in said social networking interaction;

storing said knowledge element in a catalog of knowledge elements;

presenting an evaluation element for evaluating said knowledge element in said social networking interaction;

presenting an editing element for editing said knowledge element;

presenting knowledge element indicators to accompany said corresponding messages, which knowledge element indicator indicate whether said corresponding messages correspond to at least one of the group consisting of a question and an answer; and

altering said knowledge element in response to a user evaluating or editing said knowledge element.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein multiple messages correspond to a question.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein multiple messages correspond to an answer.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the knowledge element includes information about social networking users participating in the social networking interaction.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising recommending said knowledge element for use in response to a user comprising a message relevant to said knowledge element in said social networking interaction.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein presenting said evaluation element occurs when the knowledge element is recommended to said user.

19. The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving a third user selection indicating a third portion of said social networking interaction as pertaining to the question.

20. The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving a fourth user selection indicating a fourth portion of said social networking interaction as pertaining to the answer.
