Abstract

Systems and methods for using wireless beacons in point of purchase (“POP”) displays to facilitate the delivery of consumer oriented content to mobile devices is disclosed. Wireless beacons may be used to broadcast wireless signals from POP displays, where the wireless signals include data packets with unique identifiers for the wireless beacons. The wireless signals may be received by mobile devices. A remote server may communicate with the mobile device and provide the mobile device with up-to-date content associated with the POP displays. A wireless data collection device may be used to receive and collect data from the wireless beacons. The collected data may be used to assess one or more properties of the POP displays.

Claims (49)

1. A point of purchase (POP) display system, comprising:

a plurality of POP displays located at a selected retail location;

a plurality of proximity sensors, wherein:

a respective proximity sensor is installed on a respective POP display to detect infrared or visible light, and measures and records a respective activity data in a respective vicinity of the respective POP display,

the respective activity data includes a respective activity measurement and a respective timestamp that the respective activity measurement occurred, and

the respective activity measurement includes a first number of shoppers in the respective vicinity of the POP display that is counted based on the detected infrared or visible light;

a plurality of wireless beacons, wherein:

a respective wireless beacon is associated with a respective unique identifier,

the respective wireless beacon is installed on the respective POP display,

the respective wireless beacon transmits a respective plurality of activity data packets of the respective proximity sensor,

the respective plurality of activity data packets includes the respective activity measurement that includes the first number of shoppers, the respective timestamp, and the respective unique identifier,

the respective wireless beacon communicates via radio frequency (RF) communication with one or more mobile devices in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display and counts a second number of shoppers in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display based on the RF communication between the respective wireless beacon and the one or more mobile devices, and

the respective wireless beacon transmits the second number of shoppers; and

a wireless data collection device including a processor and one or more wireless antennas, and configured to:

receive the respective plurality of activity data packets including the respective activity measurement that includes the first number of shoppers based on the detected infrared or visible light by the respective proximity sensor through at least one wireless antenna from the respective wireless beacon,

receive the second number of shoppers based on the RF communication of the respective wireless beacon with the one or more mobile devices from the respective wireless beacon, and

determine a historical analysis of shoppers carrying a mobile device in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display based on the first number of shoppers and the second number of shoppers received from the wireless beacon.

2. The POP display system of claim 1 , wherein:

a first proximity sensor of the plurality of proximity sensors includes a passive infrared sensor;

the respective activity measurement of the first proximity sensor includes radiant heat emitted from a source; and

the wireless data collection device is further configured to analyze a respective activity in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display based on the respective plurality of activity data packets transmitted from the respective wireless beacon based on the respective activity measurement, the respective timestamp, and the respective unique identifier.

3. The POP display system of claim 2 , wherein:

the respective activity analyzed by the wireless data collection device includes a respective dwell time for a respective shopper of the first number of shoppers to stand in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display.

4. The POP display system of claim 2 , wherein:

the respective activity analyzed by the wireless data collection device includes an average dwell time of the first number of shoppers to stand in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display.

5. The POP display system of claim 1 , wherein:

a first proximity sensor of the plurality of proximity sensors includes an active infrared sensor that emits infrared light;

the respective activity measurement of the first proximity sensor includes the infrared light reflected back; and

the wireless data collection device is further configured to analyze a respective activity in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display based on the respective plurality of activity data packets transmitted from the respective wireless beacon based on the respective activity measurement, the respective timestamp, and the respective unique identifier.

6. The POP display system of claim 5 , wherein:

the respective activity analyzed by the wireless data collection device includes a respective dwell time for a respective shopper of the first number of shoppers to stand in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display.

7. The POP display system of claim 5 , wherein:

the respective activity analyzed by the wireless data collection device includes an average dwell time of the first number of shoppers to stand in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display.

8. The POP display system of claim 1 , wherein:

a first proximity sensor of the plurality of proximity sensors includes an image based detection sensor;

the respective activity measurement of the first proximity sensor includes a detected image of a shopper; and

the wireless data collection device is further configured to analyze a respective activity in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display based on the respective plurality of activity data packets transmitted from the respective wireless beacon based on the respective activity measurement, the respective timestamp, and the respective unique identifier.

9. The POP display system of claim 8 , wherein:

the respective activity analyzed by the wireless data collection device includes a respective dwell time for a respective shopper of the first number of shoppers to stand in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display.

10. The POP display system of claim 8 , wherein:

the respective activity analyzed by the wireless data collection device includes an average dwell time of the first number of shoppers to stand in the respective vicinity of the respective POP display.

11. The POP display system of claim 8 , wherein the image based detection sensor is a camera.

12. The POP display system of claim 1 , wherein:

the respective proximity sensor and the respective wireless beacon are located on at least one circuit board; and

the at least one circuit board is installed on the respective POP display.

13. The POP display system of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of wireless beacons transmits the plurality of respective activity data packets by broadcast.

14. The POP display system of claim 1 , wherein the respective unique identifier is of the respective POP display, the respective proximity sensor, or the respective wireless beacon.

15. The POP display system of claim 1 , wherein the wireless data collection device is located at the selected retail location.

16. The POP display system of claim 15 , wherein the wireless data collection device is a network gateway.
