Method for capturing carbon dioxide
View Patent ↗A method for integrating a carbon capture process with a process for cement production.
1. A method for capturing carbon dioxide comprising:
supplying a first raw material containing a first carbon dioxide rich sorbent to a first calciner;
at the first calciner, thermally decomposing the first carbon dioxide rich sorbent into a first carbon dioxide lean sorbent and a first carbon dioxide stream;
supplying the first carbon dioxide lean sorbent to a carbonator;
at the carbonator, adsorbing carbon dioxide from a flue gas to generate a second carbon dioxide rich sorbent;
supplying the second carbon dioxide rich sorbent to a second calciner;
at the second calciner, thermally decomposing the second carbon dioxide rich sorbent into a second carbon dioxide lean sorbent and a second carbon dioxide stream;
providing at least a part of the second carbon dioxide lean sorbent to the carbonator; and
providing at least a part of the second carbon dioxide lean sorbent from the second calciner to a kiln for cement production.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first and second carbon dioxide rich sorbent includes CaCO 3 and the first and second carbon dioxide lean sorbent includes CaO.
3. A method, the method comprising:
providing a first raw material, the first raw material containing a first carbon dioxide rich sorbent, to a first calciner;
calcining the first raw material to generate a second raw material and a first carbon dioxide stream, the second raw material comprising a first carbon dioxide lean sorbent;
providing the second raw material and a flue gas to a carbonator;
at the carbonator, adsorbing carbon dioxide from the flue gas to generate a second carbon dioxide rich sorbent;
providing the second carbon dioxide rich sorbent to a second calciner;
at the second calciner, calcining the second carbon dioxide rich sorbent into a second carbon dioxide lean sorbent and a second carbon dioxide stream;
providing at least a first portion of the second carbon dioxide lean sorbent to the carbonator; and
providing at least a second portion of the second carbon dioxide lean sorbent from the second calciner to a kiln for cement production.
4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the first and second carbon dioxide rich sorbent includes CaCO 3 and the first and second carbon dioxide lean sorbent includes CaO.
