NETWORK ACCESS CONFIGURED BASED ON DEVICE PROFILES
The present disclosure provides access to a network based on a device profile. Configuring access to a network can include decoding uplink data received from a user equipment (UE), accessing a device profile corresponding to the UE from the decoded uplink data, and configuring an access that the UE has to an EPC network based on the device profile.
1 . An apparatus for an evolved node B (eNodeB), comprising electronic memory and one or more processors configured to:
decode uplink data received from a user equipment (UE);
access a device profile corresponding to the UE from the decoded uplink data; and
configure an access that the UE has to an evolved packet core (EPC) network based on the device profile.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to configure the UE to configure the access that the UE has to the EPC network.
3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to configure the EPC network to configure the access that the UE has to the EPC network.
4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the access that the UE has to the EPC network includes at least one or more of:
a random access configuration implemented by the EPC network to provide the UE with access to the EPC network;
a signaling mechanism implemented for the UE;
a radio resource control (RRC) procedure and a non-access stratum (NAS) procedure supported for the UE;
a kind of connection supported for the UE; or
a slice of the EPC network that the UE has access to.
5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the device profile includes one or more of:
a mobility component;
a reachability component;
a power supply component;
a group component;
an expected battery lifetime component;
a time control component;
a mobility restricted component;
a data activity component;
an emergency component;
a security component;
a radio interface component;
a dedicated communication component; or
a dedicated network component.
6 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the mobility component includes one of a mobility value, a stationary value, or a high-speed mobile value.
7 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the reachability component includes one of a mobile originated (MO) service value, a does not support paging value, or a mobile terminated (MT) service value.
8 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the power supply component includes one of a device running on battery for short term value, a device running on battery for long term value, a device connected to power supply value, or a device's sometimes charged value.
9 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the group component includes one of a device that is part of a group and does not operate in standalone mode value, or a device can operate in standalone mode value.
10 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the expected battery lifetime component includes one of a first time period battery life value or a second period battery life value.
11 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the time control component includes one of a restricted transmission value or an unrestricted transmission value.
12 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the mobility restricted component includes one of an area value, a path value, or a location value.
13 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the data activity component includes one of a periodic data burst value or an aperiodic data burst value.
14 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the emergency component includes one of a high priority value or a low priority value.
15 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the security component includes one of a low security value, a baseline security value, or a high security value.
16 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the radio interface component includes one of a device-to-device (D2D) value, a device-to-infrastructure (D2I) value, a WiFi value, a Bluetooth value, or a vehicular communication value.
17 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the dedicated communication component includes one of a pre-defined access point network (APN) value or a multiple APNs value.
18 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the dedicated network component includes one of a specific network value or a generic EPC network value.
19 . An apparatus for a user equipment (UE) comprising one or more baseband processors configured to:
store one or more device profiles comprised of device profile components that characterize a behavior of the UE;
generate, for an evolved node B (eNodeB), uplink data comprising the one or more device profiles;
decode downlink data, received from the eNodeB, comprising a plurality of configurations based on the one or more device profiles; and
configure the UE based on the plurality of configurations.
20 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the device profile components are static and a value assigned to any of the device profile components is static.
21 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the device profile components are dynamic and a value assigned to any of the device profile components is dynamic over time.
22 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the device profile components are semi-static and a value that is assigned to any of the device profile components is limited.
23 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the UE is associated with one device profile at a given time.
24 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the UE is associated with more than one device profile at a given time.
25 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the one or more baseband processors are further configured to select a device profile from the one or more device profiles to use during an initial registration of the UE with an evolved packet core (EPC) network.
26 . The apparatus of claim 25 , wherein the one or more baseband processors are further configured to generate a device profile selection for the EPC network.
27 . The apparatus of claim 26 , wherein the one or more baseband processors configured to generate a device profile selection for the EPC network is further configured to generate the device profile selection via at least one of an attach request and a tracking area update request messages.
28 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the one or more baseband processors are further configured to select the device profile to use during a service establishment via a service request message.
29 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the one or more baseband processors are further configured to select the device profile from the one or more device profiles to use during a radio resource control (RRC) connection establishment.
30 . The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the one or more baseband processors are further configured to:
select the device profile from the one or more stored device profiles;
generate a device profile selection for the EPC; and
generate uplink data for the EPC network comprising UE capability information associated with the UE.
31 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the UE capability information is provided via a UE capability message.
32 . A computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when implemented by a computing device, cause the computing device to:
store a plurality of device profiles;
select a device profile from the plurality of device profiles; and
configure an access that a plurality of user equipments (UEs) have to an evolved packet core (EPC) network based on the selected device profile.
33 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein the EPC network bars access to the EPC network for UEs that are, at least, configured with the selected device profile.
34 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein the EPC network bars access to the EPC network for UEs that are configured with the selected device profile and a communication type.
35 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein the EPC network bars access to the EPC network for UEs that are configured with the selected device profile and request access to the EPC to support at least one of a type of service and application.
36 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein the EPC network bars access to the EPC network for UEs that are configured with the selected device profile, a communication type, and request access to the EPC to support at least one of a type of service and application.
37 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein the EPC network includes a RAN node that broadcasts at least one type of device that is barred to access the EPC network based at least on a selected device profile.
38 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein the instructions also cause the computing device to configure a UE that is configured with the selected device profile to bar access to the EPC network.
