Abstract

A system includes a marketplace portal to allow a user to order a business service, and a cloud controller to deploy an instance of the ordered business service to a cloud environment. The system includes an application programming interface (API) scanner to discover API information including at least one API exposed by the deployed instance of the ordered business service, and publish the discovered API information to another service.

Claims (42)

1. A system, comprising, at least one processor, memory and communication connection configured to provide:

a marketplace portal to allow a user to order a business service, the marketplace portal comprising a federated marketplace portal that provides a listing of business services from two or more marketplaces,

wherein the marketplace portal receives a first application programming interface (API) from a user and converts the first API to at least one product specific API and the at least one product specific API is returned to at least one of the two or more marketplaces, the marketplace portal comprising a policy manager that enforces policies of each of the two or more marketplaces in the system, the policies comprising at least rules and constraints that mediate sharing of the business service;

a cloud controller that deploys an instance of the business service to a cloud environment; and

an API scanner that discovers API information including at least one API exposed by the deployed instance and publishes the discovered API information to an API gateway, wherein the discovered APIs include product-specific APIs.

2. The system of claim 1 , further configured to provide an API manager that manages a lifecycle of API definitions.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the API gateway acts as a proxy for the at least one API and hides an endpoint URL for the business service.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the policy manager dynamically configures the API gateway based on access control policies.

5. The system of claim 3 , wherein the API scanner detects an update to the discovered API information and provides corresponding updated API information to the API gateway.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the update includes a change in an API endpoint.

7. The system of claim 1 , further configured to provide a management and billing unit that monitors the business service at an API level for billing purposes.

8. The system of claim 1 , further configured to provide an event notification unit that provides a notification to existing and prospective users of the business service regarding the discovered API information.

9. A method performed by at least one processor for a marketplace portal serving two or more marketplaces, the method comprising:

generating a first instance of a business service;

deploying the first instance to a cloud environment;

discovering API information including at least one API exposed by the first instance;

publishing the discovered API information to an API gateway;

providing user devices with authorized access to the at least one API via the API gateway according to policies of the two or more marketplaces enforced by a policy manager of the marketplace portal, the policies comprising at least rules and constraints that mediate sharing of the business service;

wherein the marketplace portal comprises a federated marketplace portal that provides a listing of business services from the two or more marketplaces;

receiving a first API from a user and converting the first API to at least one product specific API and the at least one product specific API is returned to at least one of the two or more marketplaces.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

publishing the discovered API information to an API manager that manages a lifecycle of API definitions.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

detecting an update to the discovered API information, wherein the update includes a change in an API endpoint; and publishing the detected update to the API gateway.

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

publishing the discovered API information to a management and billing unit for monitoring of the business service at an API level for billing purposes.

13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

publishing the discovered API information to an event notification unit to provide a notification to existing and prospective users of the business service regarding the discovered API information.

14. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer-executable instructions for a marketplace portal serving two or more marketplaces, executed by at least one processor, to:

generate a first instance of a business service;

deploy the first instance to a cloud environment;

discover at least one API exposed by the first instance by an API scanner;

publish the discovered at least one API to an API manager that manages a lifecycle of API definitions and to an API gateway, wherein access to the at least one API is authorized according to policies of the two or more marketplaces enforced by a policy manager of the marketplace portal, the policies comprising at least rules and constraints that mediate sharing of the business service;

wherein the marketplace portal comprises a federated marketplace portal that provides a listing of business services from the two or more marketplaces;

receiving a first API from a user and converting the first API to at least one product specific API and the at least one product specific API is returned to the marketplace at least one of the two or more marketplaces.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , further comprising instructions to:

publish the discovered API information to a management and billing unit for monitoring usage of the business service at an API level for billing purposes.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , further comprising instructions to:

publish the discovered API information to an event notification unit to provide a notification to existing and prospective users of the business service regarding the discovered at least one API.

17. The system of claim 1 wherein the first API is converted to a plurality of product specific APIs.

18. The method of claim 9 wherein the first API is converted to a plurality of product specific APIs.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 wherein the first API is converted to a plurality of product specific APIs.
