Abstract

Provided herein are methods of using CD 10 + , CD 34 − , CD 105 + , CD 200 + tissue culture plastic-adherent placental cells, e.g. placental stem cells, in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).

Claims (20)

. A method of treating a subject having a diabetic peripheral neuropathy, comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising CD10 + , CD34 − , CD105 + , CD200 + placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said diabetic peripheral neuropathy affects one or more of the hands, feet, arms, or legs of said subject.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said diabetic peripheral neuropathy affects each of the hands, feet, arms, or legs of said subject.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprising placental stem cells is administered intramuscularly.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises between 1×10 5 to 1×10 6 , 1×10 6 to 3×10 6 , 3×10 6 to 5×10 6 , 5×10 6 to 1×10 7 , 1×10 7 to 3×10 7 , 3×10 7 to 5×10 7 , 5×10 7 to 1×10 8 , 1×10 8 to 3×10 8 , 3×10 8 to 5×10 8 , 5×10 8 to 1×10 9 , 1×10 9 to 5×10 9 , or 5×10 9 to 1×10 10 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises about 1×10 5 , 3×10 5 , 5×10 5 , 1×10 6 , 3×10 6 , 5×10 6 , 1×10 7 , 3×10 7 , 5×10 7 , 1×10 8 , 3×10 8 , 5×10 8 , 1×10 9 , 5×10 9 , or 1×10 10 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 6 , wherein said composition comprises about 3×10 6 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 6 , wherein said composition comprises about 3×10 7 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said treatment results in an increase in epidermal nerve fiber density in said subject.

. The method of claim 9 , wherein said increase in epidermal nerve fiber density in said subject is measured by skin biopsy.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said treatment results in improvement in one or more symptoms of said diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

. The method of claim 11 , wherein said one or more symptoms is numbness or reduced ability to feel pain or temperature changes, a tingling or burning sensation in the limbs, sharp pains or cramps, increased sensitivity to touch, muscle weakness, loss of reflexes (e.g., in the ankle), loss of balance and/or coordination, and/or foot problems (such as ulcers, infections, deformities, and bone and joint pain).

. The method of claim 4 , wherein said composition comprises between 1×10 5 to 1×10 6 , 1×10 6 to 3×10 6 , 3×10 6 to 5×10 6 , 5×10 6 to 1×10 7 , 1×10 7 to 3×10 7 , 3×10 7 to 5×10 7 , 5×10 7 to 1×10 8 , 1×10 8 to 3×10 8 , 3×10 8 to 5×10 8 , 5×10 8 to 1×10 9 , 1×10 9 to 5>10 9 , or 5×10 9 to 1×10 10 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein said composition comprises about 1×10 5 , 3×10 5 , 5×10 5 , 1×10 6 , 3×10 6 , 5×10 6 , 1×10 7 , 3×10 7 , 5×10 7 , 1×10 8 , 3×10 8 , 5×10 8 , 1×10 9 , 5×10 9 , or 1×10 10 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein said composition comprises about 3×10 6 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein said composition comprises about 3×10 7 placental stem cells.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein said treatment results in an increase in epidermal nerve fiber density in said subject.

. The method of claim 17 , wherein said increase in epidermal nerve fiber density in said subject is measured by skin biopsy.

. The method of claim 4 , wherein said treatment results in improvement in one or more symptoms of said diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

. The method of claim 19 , wherein said one or more symptoms is numbness or reduced ability to feel pain or temperature changes, a tingling or burning sensation in the limbs, sharp pains or cramps, increased sensitivity to touch, muscle weakness, loss of reflexes (e.g., in the ankle), loss of balance and/or coordination, and/or foot problems (such as ulcers, infections, deformities, and bone and joint pain).
