Abstract

Head-up display includes display device, projection optical system, a polarization member, and a first polarizer. Display device displays an image. Projection optical system includes refraction lens. Projection optical system projects the image displayed on display device to an observer. The polarization member is disposed between projection optical system and a reflection member that reflects light from projection optical system. Transmittance of the polarization member depends on a polarization direction of transmitted light. The first polarizer is disposed behind refraction lens on an optical path starting from display device. The first polarizer rotates a predetermined polarized component by a quarter of wavelength.

Claims (17)

1. A head-up display that causes an observer to visually recognize a virtual image, the head-up display comprising:

a display device that diffusion-displays an image;

a projection optical system that projects the diffusion-displayed image in the display device onto the observer, the projection optical system including a refraction lens and a mirror;

a polarization member that is disposed between the projection optical system and a reflection member that reflects light from the projection optical system, the polarization member having a transmittance depending on a polarization direction; and

a first quarter-wave plate that is disposed behind the refraction lens in front of the mirror on an optical path starting from the display device, and rotates a predetermined polarized component by a quarter of wavelength, wherein

the optical path extends from a center of the image on the display device to a viewpoint of the observer, and

the refraction lens, the first quarter-wave plate and the polarization member are disposed inclined with respect to a reference beam.

2. The head-up display according to claim 1 , wherein the first quarter-wave plate has a flat plate shape.

3. The head-up display according to claim 1 , wherein the first quarter-wave plate has a curved shape.

4. The head-up display according to claim 1 , wherein the first quarter-wave plate has a film shape.

5. The head-up display according to claim 1 , further comprising a second quarter-wave plate that is disposed between the display device and the refraction lens to rotate a polarized component of light output from the display device by a quarter of wavelength.

6. The head-up display according to claim 1 , further comprising a half-wave plate that is disposed between the display device and the refraction lens to rotate a polarized component of light output from the display device by a half of wavelength.

7. The head-up display according to claim 1 , wherein the projection optical system projects a virtual image onto the reflection member.

8. The head-up display according to claim 1 , wherein the projection optical system includes the reflection member having transparency and reflectivity.

9. A mobile object comprising the head-up display according to claim 1 ,

wherein the head-up display includes a windshield as the reflection member.

10. The head-up display according to claim 1 , wherein the first quarter-wave plate is disposed between the refraction lens and the mirror.
