WINDOWS POSITION CONTROL FOR PHONE APPLICATIONS
Methods and devices for selectively presenting a user interface for a phone application are provided. More particularly, a change in the display mode of a multiple screen device can be determined after the device is rotated. More particularly, a presentation of a user interface for a dialer of a phone application can be retained after receiving a signal indicating the rotation of the device. However, based on the direction of the rotation, the dialer may be moved from a first screen to a second screen and the window is changed to a landscape orientation.

21 . A method, comprising:
providing a device having at least first and second displays;
in a first display mode, presenting a first user interface for a phone application on a first display and a second user interface on a second display, wherein the first display mode includes displaying content in a portrait orientation, wherein the first user interface and second user interface has a first aspect ratio, and wherein the second user interface has a first arrangement of elements, wherein at least two of the elements are user-selectable devices;
receiving input from a user, wherein the input includes a change in the display for the phone application, the input is a rotation of the device;
based on the rotation of the device, determining a second display mode, wherein the second display mode includes displaying content in a landscape orientation;
in response to the input and the determination that the device is in a second display mode, displaying the first user interface on the first display, wherein the first aspect ratio of the first user interface changes to a second aspect ratio when transitioning from the portrait orientation to the landscape orientation, wherein the first aspect ratio is different from the second aspect ratio; and
in response to the input and the determination that the device is in a second display mode, displaying the second user interface on the second display in the landscape orientation, wherein the first aspect ratio of the second user interface changes to the second aspect ratio when transitioning from the portrait orientation to the landscape orientation, wherein the first aspect ratio is different from the second aspect ratio, wherein a first user-selectable device changes position in the second display mode, and wherein a second user-selectable device changes size in the second display mode.
22 . The method of claim 1 , wherein in the first user interface and the second user interface present different content.
23 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the second user interface is a child window of the first user interface.
24 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the phone application remains in a single application mode during the change in the number of displays that are in view of the user.
25 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the phone application is in a first application mode.
26 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the first application mode is a dialer mode.
27 . The method of claim 6 , wherein, in the second display mode, a third user-selectable device and a fourth user-selectable device change arrangement.
28 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the clockwise rotation changes the device from portrait orientation to landscape orientation.
29 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
executing the phone application;
receiving a manifest;
setting a display binding for the phone application based on the first display mode; and
providing the display binding to the phone application.
30 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
setting a second display binding in response to the input; and
providing the second display binding to the phone application to present the second user interface.
31 . A device, comprising:
a first display, the first display including a touch sensitive display area;
a second display, the second display including a touch sensitive display area, wherein in a first display mode the second display displays a second user interface in a portrait orientation and the first display displays a first user interface in a portrait orientation, wherein the first user interface and second user interface has a first aspect ratio in the portrait orientation, wherein the second user interface has a first arrangement of elements in the portrait orientation, wherein at least two of the elements are user-selectable devices, wherein in a second display mode the first user interface is displayed in the second display and the second user interface is displayed in a first display, and wherein in the second display mode the first user interface and second user interface are displayed in a landscape orientation, wherein the first user interface and second user interface has a second aspect ratio in the landscape orientation, wherein the first aspect ratio is different from the second aspect ratio, wherein a first user-selectable device changes position in the second display mode, and wherein a second user-selectable device changes size in the second display mode, and wherein a third user-selectable device and a fourth user-selectable device change arrangement in the second display mode;
a memory;
a processor;
a phone application program stored in the memory and executed by the processor, wherein the application programming is operable to:
send a manifest to a multi-display management module, the manifest providing a preferred display mode;
receive a display binding, the display binding providing a first display mode; and
present the first user interface and the second user interface in the first display mode;
in response to a rotation input, receive the second display binding, the second display binding providing a second display mode; and
present the first and second user interface in a landscape orientation, wherein the first aspect ratio of the first user interface changes to the second aspect ratio when transitioning from the portrait orientation to the landscape orientation, and wherein the first aspect ratio of the second user interface changes to the second aspect ratio when transitioning from the portrait orientation to the landscape orientation.
32 . The device of claim 33 , wherein the processor receives a counterclockwise rotation signal and, in response to the counterclockwise rotation, sends a second display binding to the phone application.
33 . The device of claim 33 , further comprising:
the phone application program further operable to:
maintain the phone application program in a dialer mode;
in response to receiving the first display binding, provide a dial pad and a child window.
34 . The device of claim 33 , further comprising a multi-display management module operable to:
receive the manifest;
determine a second display mode;
create the second display binding; and
send the second display binding to the phone application program.
35 . The device of claim 34 , wherein the first display mode is a dual display mode in portrait orientation with the first and second displays displaying windows for the phone application, while the phone application is in a dialer mode, and wherein the second display mode is a dual display mode in landscape orientation with the first and second displays displaying windows for the phone application, while the phone application is in a dialer mode.
36 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions, the computer executable instructions causing a processor of a device to execute a method for providing a user interface for a phone application, the computer-executable instructions comprising:
instructions to execute the phone application, wherein the phone application is in a dialer mode;
instructions to generate a manifest for the phone application, wherein the manifest provides a preferred display mode for the phone application;
instructions to receive the manifest;
instructions to determine a configuration for a device, wherein the configuration is open with at least two displays visible by a user and in portrait orientation;
instructions to determine a first display mode for the device;
instructions to create a display binding for the phone application;
instructions to send the display binding to the phone application;
in response to determining the first display mode and receiving the display binding;
instructions to generate a first user interface for a first display and a second user interface for a second display, wherein the first user interface and second user interface has a first aspect ratio in the first display mode, wherein the second user interface has a first arrangement of elements in the first display mode wherein at least two of the elements are user-selectable devices;
instructions to receive a rotation signal;
in response to the rotation signal, instructions to send a second display binding to change the phone application to a second display mode, wherein, in the second display mode, a first user interface and a second user interface are displayed in a landscape orientation, wherein a first aspect ratio of the first user interface and the second user interface changes to a second aspect ratio when transitioning from the portrait orientation to the landscape orientation, and wherein the first aspect ratio is different from the second aspect ratio, wherein a first user-selectable device changes position in the second display mode.
37 . The computer readable medium of claim 36 , further comprising instructions to receive one of a clockwise rotation or a counterclockwise rotation.
38 . The computer readable medium of claim 37 , further comprising, in response to receiving the clockwise rotation, instructions to move a display of the first user interface from a first display to a second display.
39 . The computer readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the device is in a portrait orientation in the first display mode and in a landscape orientation in the second display mode.
40 . The computer readable medium of claim 19 , wherein a second user-selectable device changes size in the second display mode, and wherein a third user-selectable device and a fourth user-selectable device change arrangement in the second display mode.
