Abstract

According to at least one embodiment, a computer-implemented method to manage incoming communications is described. An incoming call may be received on a landline. One or more devices may be located within a predetermined area based at least in part on the receipt of the incoming call. The incoming call may be forwarded to the one or more devices based at least in part on the locating.

Claims (59)

1. A computer-implemented method to manage incoming communications, comprising:

determining a geo-fence around a predetermined area;

determining a global positioning system (GPS) position of each of a plurality of mobile devices;

performing a first comparison of the GPS position of each of the plurality of mobile devices to the determined geo-fence;

receiving a first incoming call on a landline associated with the predetermined area;

determining, based at least in part on the first comparison, that none of the plurality of mobile devices are within the predetermined area;

forwarding, based at least in part on the first comparison and the determining that none of the plurality of mobile devices are within the predetermined area, the first incoming call to a messaging service;

receiving a second incoming call;

determining a current GPS position of one or more of the plurality of mobile devices;

performing a second comparison of the current GPS position of the one or more of the plurality of mobile devices to the established geo-fence;

determining, based at least in part on the second comparison, that one or more of the plurality of mobile devices is located within the predetermined area; and

forwarding the second incoming call to one or more of the plurality of mobile devices based at least in part on determining that one or more of the plurality of mobile devices is located within the predetermined area, wherein the one or more of the plurality of mobile devices within the predetermined area are located based at least in part on the receipt of the second incoming call.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving input from the plurality of mobile devices to direct the second incoming call to a particular device within an automation system.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the second incoming call is a video call and the call is forwarded to a device with video call capabilities.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

notifying an administrator of an automation system that the first incoming call was forwarded to the messaging service.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

forwarding a message received by the messaging service to a device external to the predetermined area.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , further comprising:

converting the message to text; and

sending the text to at least one of the plurality of mobile devices associated with an automation system.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , wherein the messages comprises at least one of the group comprising of an email, text message, social media message, and ping message.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first incoming call is received at a control panel for an automation system.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

establishing a wireless network associated with the predetermined area;

determining if the plurality of devices are connected to the wireless network; and

forwarding the second incoming call to the plurality of mobile devices based at least in part on determining that the plurality of mobile devices are connected to the wireless network.

10. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

forwarding unanswered incoming calls to one or more devices associated with an automation system, wherein the one or more devices associated with the automation system are outside of the predetermined area.

11. An apparatus to manage incoming communications, comprising:

a processor;

a memory in electronic communication with the processor; and

instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to:

determine a geo-fence around a predetermined area;

determine a global positioning system (GPS) position of each of a plurality of mobile devices;

perform a first comparison of the GPS position of each of the plurality of mobile devices to the determined geo-fence;

receive a first incoming call on a landline associated with the predetermined area;

determine, based at least in part on the first comparison, that none of the plurality of mobile devices are within the predetermined area;

forward, based at least in part on the first comparison and the determining that none of the plurality of mobile devices are within the predetermined area, the first incoming call to a messaging service;

receive a second incoming call;

determine a current GPS position of one or more of the plurality of mobile devices;

perform a second comparison of the current GPS position of the one or more of the plurality of mobile devices to the established geo-fence;

determine, based at least in part on the second comparison, that one or more of the plurality of mobile devices is located within the predetermined area; and

forward the second incoming call to one or more of the plurality of mobile devices based at least in part on determining that one or more of the plurality of mobile devices is located within the predetermined area, wherein the one or more of the plurality of mobile devices within the predetermined area are located based at least in part on the receipt of the second incoming call.

12. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor to:

determine a geo-fence around a predetermined area;

determine a global positioning system (GPS) position of each of a plurality of mobile devices;

perform a first comparison of the GPS position of each of the plurality of mobile devices to the determined geo-fence;

receive a first incoming call on a landline associated with the predetermined area;

determine, based at least in part on the first comparison, that none of the plurality of mobile devices are within the predetermined area;

forward, based at least in part on the first comparison and the determining that none of the plurality of mobile devices are within the predetermined area, the first incoming call to a messaging service;

receive a second incoming call;

determine a current GPS position of one or more of the plurality of mobile devices;

perform a second comparison of the current GPS position of the one or more of the plurality of mobile devices to the established geo-fence;

determine, based at least in part on the second comparison, that one or more of the plurality of mobile devices is located within the predetermined area; and

forward the second incoming call to one or more of the plurality of mobile devices based at least in part on determining that one or more of the plurality of mobile devices is located within the predetermined area, wherein the one or more of the plurality of mobile devices within the predetermined area are located based at least in part on the receipt of the second incoming call.

13. The computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:

receive input from the plurality of mobile devices to direct the second call to a particular device within an automation system.
