Abstract

A food preparation appliance has a base, a blade member rotatable in a direction of rotation, and a container with a closed bottom, an open top and a tubular sidewall together defining an interior space of the container. The top of the container is configured for releasable connection with the base, with the blade member disposed within the interior space of the container. The sidewall has a rib projecting inward of the interior space of the container and extending lengthwise along at least a portion of the sidewall from the top of the container toward the bottom of the container. The rib has, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, a peak defined as the shortest transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at a respective height along the portion of the sidewall having the rib, the rib being asymmetric in transverse cross-section.

Claims (26)

1. A container configured for a food preparation appliance that would utilize a blade member that would be rotatably positioned within the container, the container having a direction of rotation defined by an expected direction of rotation of the blade within the container, the container comprising:

a bottom end and an open top end,

a tubular sidewall extending from the bottom end to the top open end and together with the bottom end defining an interior space of the container, the container being configured to accommodate positioning of the blade member within the interior space of the container, the sidewall having a rim at the open end through which contents to be processed by the appliance are loaded into the interior space of the container, the container having a center;

said sidewall having a plurality of ribs, each rib projecting inward of the interior space of the container and extending heightwise along at least a portion of the sidewall intermediate the open top end and bottom end of the container, the ribs each having, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, a peak defined as the shortest transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at a respective height along the portion of the sidewall having the rib,

wherein each rib comprises, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, an inflow segment leading to the peak and including a first slope and an outflow segment leading away from the peak and including a second slope, the outflow segment of one rib transitioning directly into the inflow segment of an adjacent rib in the direction of rotation of the blade member.

2. The container set forth in claim 1 wherein the second slope is substantially less than the first slope.

The container set forth in claim 2 wherein each rib has, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, a base, the first slope inclining from the base to the peak, an angular distance from the base to the peak of the rib being less than or equal to approximately one-third of an angular distance between circumferentially adjacent rib peaks.

4. The container set forth in claim 3 wherein the container has a maximum transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at said respective height along the portion of the sidewall having at least one of the ribs.

The container set forth in claim 1 wherein at least one rib has, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, a base and a first slope inclining from the base to the peak of said rib, the container having a transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to said base, the transverse dimension of the container measured from the center of the container to said peak being in the range of 60% to 95% of the transverse dimension of the container from the center of the container to said base.

The container set forth in claim 2 wherein the container has a bottom defining the closed end of the container, the container further comprising a ramp section extending up from the bottom of the container and extending, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, circumferentially along the sidewall of the container in correspondence with at least the first slope.

7. The container set forth in claim 1 wherein the container has a non-uniform transverse cross-sectional dimension along the height of the container from the closed end to the open end of the container.

8. A container configured for a food preparation appliance that would utilize a blade member that would be rotatably positioned within the container, the container having a direction of rotation based upon an expected direction of rotation of the blade, the container comprising:

a bottom and an open top,

a tubular sidewall extending from the bottom to the top and together with the bottom defining an interior space of the container, the container being configured to accommodate positioning of the blade member within the interior space of the container, the sidewall having a rim at the open end through which contents to be processed by the appliance are loaded into the interior space of the container, the container having a center;

said sidewall having at least one outwardly projecting rib or corner that extends heightwise along at least a portion of the sidewall intermediate the bottom and the open top of the container, the at least one outwardly projecting rib having a peak defined as a relatively farther dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at a respective height along the portion of the sidewall having the rib, and

a ramp section extending up from the bottom of the container and extending, so as to go increasingly higher in the direction of rotation of the blade member, circumferentially along the sidewall of the container and to extend within the outwardly projecting rib or corner.

The container set forth in claim 8 further comprising a plurality of outwardly projecting ribs or corners that extend heightwise along at least a portion of the sidewall intermediate the bottom and open top of the container, and a plurality of ramp sections, each ramp section extending up from the bottom of the container and extending, so as to go increasingly higher in the direction of rotation of the blade member, circumferentially along the sidewall of the container peak and to extend within an outwardly projecting rib or corner.

10. The container set forth in claim 9 , wherein each peak is defined as the farthest transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at a respective height along the portion of the sidewall having the outwardly projecting rib or corner.

The container set forth in claim 8 wherein the sidewall also has an inward rib projecting inward of the interior space of the container and extending adjacent to the outwardly projecting rib or corner and also extending heightwise along at least a portion of the sidewall intermediate the bottom and the top of the container, the inward rib having, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, an inward peak defined as a relatively shorter transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at a respective height along the portion of the sidewall having the inward rib.

12. The container set forth in claim 11 wherein the ramp section extends within the outwardly projecting rib or corner and further to terminate and lead into a surface of the inward rib.

The container set forth in claim 12 further comprising a plurality of outwardly projecting ribs or corners that extend heightwise along at least a portion of the sidewall intermediate the bottom and open top of the container, and a plurality of ramp sections, each ramp section extending up from the bottom of the container and extending, so as to go increasingly higher in the direction of rotation of the blade member, circumferentially along the sidewall of the container peak and to extend within an outwardly projecting rib or corner.

The container set forth in claim 13 further comprising a plurality of inward ribs projecting inward of the interior space of the container, each inward rib extending adjacent to one of the plural outwardly projecting ribs or corners and also extending heightwise along at least a portion of the sidewall intermediate the bottom and the top of the container, each inward rib having, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, an inward peak defined as a relatively shorter transverse dimension measured from the center of the container to the sidewall at a respective height along the portion of the sidewall having the inward rib.

15. The container set forth in claim 14 wherein each ramp section extends within an outwardly projecting rib or corner and leads into a surface of an adjacent inward rib.

The container set forth in claim 11 wherein the inward rib has a first slope inclining to the peak, and a second slope declining away from the peak, the second slope being substantially less than the first slope, the ramp section extending circumferentially along the sidewall of the container in correspondence with at least the first slope of the inward rib.

The container set forth in claim 14 wherein each inward rib comprises, in the direction of rotation of the blade member, an inflow segment leading to the peak and including a first slope and an outflow segment leading away from the peak and including a second slope, the outflow segment of one inward rib transitioning directly into the inflow segment of an adjacent inward rib in the direction of rotation of the blade member.

18. The container set forth in claim 8 wherein the ramp section has an inner panel extending generally heightwise up from the bottom of the container in spaced relationship with the container sidewall.
