GOLF CLUB HEADS AND METHODS TO MANUFACTURE GOLF CLUB HEADS
Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion including a first material and having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, a front portion having a face portion. The golf club head may also include a third mass portion including a second material and coupled to the body portion, and a plurality of mass portions coupled to the third mass portion. The density of the second material is greater than a density of the first material. The interior cavity may include an elastic polymer material. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.
1 . A golf club head comprising:
a polymer material associated with a coefficient of restitution (COR) greater than or equal to 0.7 when an initial velocity is greater than or equal to 100 feet per second;
a body portion comprising a first material, the body portion comprising a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a front portion, a back portion, an opening, and an interior partially or entirely filled with the polymer material through the opening; and
a mass portion comprising a second material different from the first material, the mass portion located farther from the heel portion than the toe portion, and the mass portion located at a different location than the opening.
2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the mass portion is partially or entirely located above the horizontal midplane.
3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the mass portion is partially or entirely located below the horizontal midplane.
4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising a face portion, wherein the polymer material is configured to bond to the face portion.
5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the mass portion is greater than or equal to 0.1 gram and less than or equal to 20 grams.
6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the front portion comprises a face portion having a thickness of less than or equal to about 1.9 millimeters (0.075 inch).
7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the front portion comprises a face portion having a first thickness and a second thickness less than the first thickness.
8 . A golf club head comprising:
a body portion comprising a material associated with a first density, the body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a front portion, and a back portion;
a polymer material associated with a coefficient of restitution (COR) greater than or equal to 0.7 when an initial velocity is greater than or equal to 100 feet per second;
an interior cavity partially or entirely filled with the polymer material;
an opening connected to the interior cavity; and
a mass portion comprising a material associated with a second density different than the first density, the mass portion located at or below a horizontal midplane of the body portion and located farther from the heel portion than the toe portion, and the mass portion located at a different location than the opening.
9 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the mass portion is greater than or equal to 0.1 gram and less than or equal to 20 grams.
10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a face portion and a bonding portion configured to bond the polymer material to the face portion.
11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the front portion comprises a face portion having a thickness of less than or equal to about 1.9 millimeters (0.075 inch).
12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the front portion comprises a face portion having a first thickness and a second thickness less than the first thickness.
13 . A golf club head comprising:
a cavity filling material associated with a coefficient of restitution (COR) greater than or equal to 0.7 when an initial velocity is greater than or equal to 100 feet per second;
a body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a front portion, a back portion, and an interior cavity at least partially filled with the cavity filling material;
a port located at or proximate to the toe portion, the port being configured to receive the cavity filling material;
a face portion having a thickness of less than or equal to about 1.9 millimeters (0.075 inch); and
a mass portion located at a different location than the port.
14 . A golf club head as defined in claim 13 , wherein the mass portion is partially or entirely located above the horizontal midplane.
15 . A golf club head as defined in claim 13 , wherein the mass portion is partially or entirely located below the horizontal midplane.
16 . A golf club head as defined in claim 13 , wherein the polymer material is configured to bond to the face portion.
17 . A golf club head as defined in claim 13 , wherein the mass portion is located closer to the heel portion than the toe portion.
18 . A golf club head as defined in claim 13 further comprising a hosel portion, wherein the mass portion is located at or proximate to the hosel portion.
19 . A golf club head as defined in claim 13 , wherein the mass portion is greater than or equal to 0.1 gram and less than or equal to 20 grams.
20 . A golf club head as defined in claim 13 , wherein the face portion comprises a first thickness and a second thickness less than the first thickness.
