Abstract

An implant delivery system, comprising: an implantable device comprising a plurality of supports extending between a proximal end and a distal end, the supports being moveable between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, a proximal guide tube at the proximal end of the supports extending toward the distal end, and a distal guide tube at the distal end of the supports extending toward the proximal end, wherein the proximal and distal guide tubes are telescoping and become further engaged as the supports move from the collapsed to the expanded configuration.

Claims (39)

1. An implant delivery system comprising:

a catheter system including a catheter having a lumen within a distal end thereof sized and adapted to receive at least a portion of an implantable device;

an activation element slideable within the lumen of the catheter; and

an implantable device having a collapsed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration, the implantable device comprising a plurality of supports initially extending distally and radially outward from a proximal hub, the implantable device comprising an occlusive portion and an anchoring portion,

wherein the occlusive portion of the implantable device comprises an occlusive material deployed over the proximal hub and at least a portion of a longitudinal extent of the plurality of supports,

wherein the anchoring portion comprises a distal hub connected to distal ends of at least some supports of the plurality of supports and the anchoring portion comprises anchoring hooks adapted to engage tissue, the anchoring hooks extending radially outward by a predetermined distance from at least some supports of the plurality of supports when the implantable device is in the expanded deployed configuration,

wherein the activation element includes a distal mating surface adapted to engage a corresponding feature of the catheter proximate the distal end of the catheter to secure the implantable device to the catheter in the collapsed delivery configuration and adapted to disengage from the corresponding feature of the catheter to allow the implantable device to transition to the expanded deployed configuration,

wherein the catheter further comprises a plurality of flexible protruding fingers configured and adapted to engage corresponding interlocking features of the implantable device in the collapsed delivery configuration and to be released therefrom upon removal of the activation element from between plurality of flexible protruding fingers.

2. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the lumen of the catheter extends from the distal end of the catheter to a proximal end of the catheter.

3. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the distal mating surface of the activation element and the corresponding feature of the catheter are threaded regions.

4. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the occlusive material is a membrane, mesh, or fabric which facilitates cellular in-growth.

5. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the corresponding interlocking features of the implantable device are features of the proximal hub.

6. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the activation element, when activated, allows the plurality of flexible protruding fingers to return to a biased position.

7. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the proximal hub includes an axial through bore.

8. The implant delivery system of claim 7 , wherein the catheter includes a proximal injection port and a distal injection port in fluid communication, the distal injection port being located and adapted to deliver contrast media to an interior of the implantable device.

9. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the activation element is slideable between a first state in which it is extended distally beyond the catheter and a second state in which it is retracted within the catheter.

10. The implant delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the distal hub further comprises a distal tube having a lumen therein and extending in a proximal direction from the distal hub.

11. The implant delivery system of claim 10 , wherein the distal tube receives at least a portion of the activation element when the implantable device is in the collapsed delivery configuration.

12. An implant delivery system, comprising:

an implantable device having a collapsed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration, the implantable device comprising a plurality of supports initially extending distally and radially outward from a proximal hub, the implantable device comprising an occlusive portion and an anchoring portion;

a catheter including a lumen extending therethrough, the catheter being releasably attached to the proximal hub of the implantable device; and

an activation shaft movable within the lumen of the catheter to shift the implantable device between the collapsed delivery configuration and the expanded deployed configuration;

wherein the occlusive portion of the implantable device comprises an occlusive material deployed over at least a portion of a longitudinal extent of the plurality of supports;

wherein the anchoring portion comprises anchoring hooks adapted to engage tissue, the anchoring hooks extending radially outward from at least some supports of the plurality of supports when the implantable device is in the expanded deployed configuration;

wherein the implantable device includes an inner tubular member and an outer tubular member disposed within an interior of the implantable device, the inner tubular member being axially movable within and relative to the outer tubular member as the implantable device shifts from the collapsed delivery configuration to the expanded deployed configuration;

wherein the catheter further comprises a plurality of flexible protruding fingers configured and adapted to engage corresponding interlocking features of the proximal hub when a distal end of the activation shaft extends distally of distal ends of the plurality of flexible protruding fingers.

13. The implant delivery system of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of flexible protruding fingers is configured to be released from the proximal hub when the distal end of the activation shaft is disposed proximal of the distal ends of the plurality of flexible protruding fingers.

14. The implant delivery system of claim 12 , wherein the occlusive material is deployed over the proximal hub.

15. The implant delivery system of claim 12 , wherein the inner tubular member moves distally within the outer tubular member as the implantable device shifts from the collapsed delivery configuration to the expanded deployed configuration.

16. The implant delivery system of claim 12 , wherein in the collapsed delivery configuration, the inner tubular member is a proximal tubular member attached to the plurality of supports and the outer tubular member is a distal tubular member attached to the plurality of supports.

17. An implant delivery system, comprising:

an implantable device having a collapsed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration, the implantable device comprising a plurality of supports initially extending distally and radially outward from a proximal hub, the implantable device comprising an anchoring portion and an occlusive portion, the occlusive portion comprising an occlusive material deployed over at least a portion of a longitudinal extent of the plurality of supports;

a catheter including a lumen extending therethrough, the catheter being releasably attached to the proximal hub of the implantable device; and

an activation shaft movable within the lumen of the catheter to shift the implantable device between the collapsed delivery configuration and the expanded deployed configuration;

wherein the implantable device includes an inner tubular member and an outer tubular member disposed within an interior of the implantable device, the inner tubular member being axially movable within and relative to the outer tubular member as the implantable device shifts from the collapsed delivery configuration to the expanded deployed configuration;

wherein the catheter further comprises a plurality of flexible protruding fingers configured and adapted to engage corresponding interlocking features of the proximal hub when a distal end of the activation shaft extends distally of distal ends of the plurality of flexible protruding fingers.

18. The implant delivery system of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of flexible protruding fingers is configured to be released from the proximal hub when the distal end of the activation shaft is disposed proximal of the distal ends of the plurality of flexible protruding fingers.

19. The implant delivery system of claim 17 , wherein the activation shaft extends into the inner tubular member in the collapsed delivery configuration.

20. The implant delivery system of claim 17 , wherein the inner tubular member moves distally relative to the outer tubular member as the implantable device shifts from the collapsed delivery configuration to the expanded deployed configuration.
