Abstract

This disclosure provides a system for securing a bone to a rod, the system comprising a ligature, a body, and two fasteners. The ligature has two free ends and an intermediate portion therebetween, the intermediate portion being configured to engage a bone. A portion of a rod can be fastened to the body using one of the fasteners. The ligature can be fastened to the body using another one of the fasteners. The two fasteners are distinct from one another and are adapted to fasten two free end portions of the ligature to the body independently from fastening the portion of the rod to the body.

Claims (28)

1. A system for securing a bone to a rod, comprising:

a conformable elongate member having a first free end portion, a second free end portion, and an intermediate portion extending therebetween, the intermediate portion being configured to engage a bone;

a main body extending along a longitudinal axis from a first end to a second end thereof, the main body comprising a groove disposed therein that extends at least partially around a periphery of the main body, and a passageway extending from the first end towards the second end of the main body, the passageway being configured to receive a rod therein;

a compression member at least partially engageable with the groove of the main body to secure the first free end portion and the second free end portion therebetween; and

a fastener engageable with the main body to secure the rod within the passageway.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the compression member comprises a circular ring with open ends.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the compression member comprises a fastening collar.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fastener comprises a threaded fastener.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the main body further comprises threading disposed in the passageway engageable with the threaded fastener.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the groove is transverse to longitudinal axis of the main body.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the groove extends completely around the periphery of the main body.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first free end portion and the second free end portion are clamped between an inner surface e of the compression member and at least a bottom surface of the groove.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fastener has a socket disposed in an upper surface for receiving a driver.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the socket comprises a hex socket.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the driver comprises an Allen driver.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the rod is securable within the passageway with the fastener independently of securing the first free end portion and the second free end portion with the compression member.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate portion of the conformable elongate member extends from the main body in a direction transverse to a longitudinal axis of the rod.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate portion of the conformable elongate member forms a loop extending away from the main body, the loop for surrounding the bone.

15. A system for securing a bone to a rod, comprising:

a conformable elongate member having a first free end portion, a second free end portion, and an intermediate portion extending therebetween, the intermediate portion being configured to engage a bone;

a main body extending along a longitudinal axis from a first end to a second end thereof, the main body comprising a groove disposed therein that extends around a periphery of the main body and two upwardly extending arms, wherein the upwardly extending arms define a passageway extending from the first end towards the second end of the main body, the passageway for receiving a rod therein;

a compression member engageable with the groove of the main body to secure the first free end portion and the second free end portion therebetween; and

a fastener engageable with the main body to secure the rod within the passageway.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the compression member comprises a circular ring with open ends.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the compression member comprises a fastening collar.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the fastener comprises a threaded fastener.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the main body further comprises threading disposed in the passageway engageable with the threaded fastener.

20. The system of claim 1 , wherein the groove is transverse to longitudinal axis of the main body.
