Abstract

A seam ripping assembly for use in preparing a coiled tubing operation in a production well, such as, for example, in the oil and gas industry. More particularly, the present invention pertains to a method and apparatus for seam dressing that can be used to efficiently remove a weld seam along an inner diameter on a section of coiled tubing, thereby allowing a coil connector to then be able to attach to an end of said section of coiled tubing.

Claims (15)

1. An apparatus for use in removing a weld seam from within an inner surface or an outer surface of a distal end of a section of coiled tubing in preparation for a downhole operation in a production well comprising:

a) a shaft member comprising a substantially cylindrical configuration having a first end, a second end, and an outer surface, wherein said first end is attachably connected to a drive motor mechanism, and said outer surface comprises a plurality of visual depth markings;

b) a bit member comprising a substantially rough outer surface, wherein said bit member is attachably connected to said second end of said shaft member; and

c) a sleeve member having a first end, a second end, and an inner surface defining an inner chamber, wherein said second end of said sleeve member attachably connects to said distal end of said coiled tubing, and said shaft member and bit member are received within said inner chamber.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a collar member, wherein said collar member has a first end, a second end, and an inner surface defining an inner chamber, and wherein said collar member maintains said shaft member in a substantially stable position.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein said second end of said collar member attachably connects to said first end of said sleeve member.

4. The apparatus of claim 3 , further comprising a fluid seal member, wherein said fluid seal member is disposed between said collar member and said sleeve member.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising an internal diameter beveler apparatus, wherein said internal diameter beveler apparatus comprises:

a) a shaft member having a first end and a second end, wherein said first end of said shaft member is attachably connected to said drive motor mechanism;

b) a cone member comprising a substantially rough outer surface, wherein said cone member is attachably connected to said second end of said shaft member; and

c) a sleeve member having a first end, a second end, and an inner surface defining an inner chamber, wherein said second end of said sleeve member attachably connects to said distal end of said coiled tubing, and said shaft member and cone member are received within said inner chamber.

6. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein said shaft member is received within said first end of said collar member.

7. The apparatus of claim 4 , further comprising a cap member, wherein said cap member comprises a first end, a second end, an inner surface, and an outer surface.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein said first end of said cap member attachably connects to said second end of said sleeve member.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein said second end of said cap member attachably connects to said distal end of said coiled tubing.
