Abstract

A method of whitening skin or evening out skin tone is disclosed. The method can include topically applying to skin in need of treatment a composition comprising an effective amount of an aqueous extract of white navy bean powder, wherein topical application of the composition whitens skin or evens out skin tone.

Claims (16)

1. A method of whitening skin or evening out skin tone, the method comprising topically applying to skin in need of treatment a composition comprising an effective amount of an aqueous extract of white navy bean powder, wherein topical application of the composition to the skin whitens the skin or evens out the skin tone, and

wherein an aqueous extracting solvent that does not include an alcohol was used to obtain the aqueous extract of white navy bean powder.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to hyperpigmented skin.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to melasmic skin.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to an age spot or freckle.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition includes 0.1 to 5 wt. % of the aqueous extract of white navy bean powder.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition reduces melanogenesis activity in the skin.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition reduces tyrosinase activity in the skin.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition reduces melanogenesis activity and tyrosinase activity in the skin.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include an ecdysteroid and does not include a flour or a flour phase.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include a bean or extract thereof other than from dried white navy bean.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is in liquid form.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is formulated as an emulsion.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the emulsion is an oil-in-water emulsion.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is formulated as a cream or lotion.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is formulated as a gel.
