Abstract

An audio converter device and a method for using the same. The audio converter device receives the digital audio data from a first device via a local area network. The audio converter device decompresses the digital audio data and converts the digital audio data into analog electrical data. The audio converter device transfers the analog electrical data to an audio playback device.

Claims (34)

1. A method performed on a computing device, the method comprising:

receiving an indication that a user has requested playback of one or more of a plurality of digital media content via a digital media streaming system, wherein the playback is based at least in part on a play list;

during playback of the one or more of the plurality of digital media content, receiving an indication that a tag command that identifies preferred content has been activated by the user, wherein activation of the tag command includes generation of a tag command message;

determining a content source for association with the tag command, wherein the content source is selected from a group comprising a local file, a terrestrial broadcast, and an internet stream;

based at least in part on determining the content source, including information about the content source in the tag command message; and

compiling a tag aggregation list of preferred content tags, wherein the tag aggregation list of preferred content is presented to a user on a tag aggregation web page.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein portions of the plurality of digital media content are converted into a usable format at a client device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the digital media streaming system includes a software player.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the software player includes instructions to present a graphical user interface at the digital media streaming system.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising searching for compatible digital media content for the digital media streaming system.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising downloading new files based on the tag command.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information about the currently playing content source is selected from a group comprising a file name, an FM broadcast frequency, a URL stream source, and an IP address.

8. An apparatus coupled via a local area network to a client computer, the apparatus comprising:

a memory;

a processor operatively coupled to the memory; and

a first set of instructions stored on the memory and configured to be executed by the processor, wherein the processor is configured to:

receive an indication that a user has requested playback of one or more of a plurality of digital media content via a digital media streaming system, wherein the playback is based at least in part on a play list;

during playback of the one or more of the plurality of digital media content, receive an indication that a tag command that identifies preferred content has been activated by the user, wherein activation of the tag command includes generation of a tag command message;

determine a content source for association with the tag command, wherein the content source is selected from a group comprising a local file, a terrestrial broadcast, and an internet stream;

based at least in part on determining the content source, include information about the content source in the tag command message; and

compile a tag aggregation list of preferred content tags, wherein the tag aggregation list of preferred content is presented to a user on a tag aggregation web page.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein tag command message includes a time and a date when the tag command was sent.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the information about the content source includes a file name and a user identifier.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute instructions to associate with a software player in at least one component of the digital media streaming system.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the software player includes instructions to present a graphical user interface at the digital media streaming system.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor searches for compatible digital media content for a software player.

14. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by a computing device, causes the computing device to perform operations comprising:

receiving an indication that a user has requested playback of one or more of a plurality of digital media content via a digital media streaming system, wherein the playback is based at least in part on a play list;

during playback of the one or more of the plurality of digital media content, receiving an indication that a tag command that identifies preferred content has been activated by the user, wherein activation of the tag command includes generation of a tag command message;

determining a content source for association with the tag command, wherein the content source is selected from a group comprising a local file, a terrestrial broadcast, and an internet stream;

based at least in part on the determining the content source, including information about the content source in the tag command message; and

compiling a tag aggregation list of preferred content tags, wherein the tag aggregation list of preferred content is presented to a user on a tag aggregation web page.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving instructions to operate a software player in the digital media streaming system.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the software player includes instructions to present a graphical user interface at the digital media streaming system.
