GOLF CLUB HEADS AND METHODS TO MANUFACTURE GOLF CLUB HEADS
Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion with a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a rear portion, and a front portion having a face portion with a face portion thickness extending between a front surface and a back surface. The body portion may be associated with a body portion volume. The golf club head may also include an interior cavity. The interior cavity may include an elastic polymer material. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.
1 . A golf club head comprising:
a face portion having a face portion thickness,
a body portion coupled to the face portion, the body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, a front portion, and an interior cavity associated with an interior cavity volume;
a first mass portion coupled to the body portion;
a second mass portion coupled to the body portion, the second mass portion being located farther from the toe portion and the top portion than the first mass portion;
a port located closer to the toe portion than the heel portion and connected to the interior cavity; and
a polymer material injected into the interior cavity from the port, the polymer material being associated with a polymer material volume,
wherein the face portion thickness is related to the polymer material volume by the equation 0.01≤T f /V e ≤0.2, where T f is the face portion thickness in units of inch, and V e is the polymer material volume in units of in 3 .
2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the port is configured to engage the first mass portion.
3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising a bonding portion configured to attach the polymer material to a back surface of the face portion.
4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising another port located below a horizontal midplane of the body portion.
5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the face portion thickness comprises a thickness between about 0.02 inch (0.508 mm) and about 0.09 inch (2.286 mm).
6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first mass portion comprises a screw.
7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first mass portion and the second mass portion have at least one different physical property.
8 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second mass portion is located farther from the face portion than the first mass portion.
9 . A golf club head comprising:
a body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, a front portion having a face portion associated with a face portion thickness of less than or equal to about 1.9 millimeters (0.075 inch), and an interior cavity;
a first mass portion coupled to the body portion;
a second mass portion coupled to the body portion, the second mass portion being located farther from the toe portion and the face portion than the first mass portion;
a port located closer to the toe portion than the heel portion and connected to the interior cavity; and
a polymer material injected into the interior cavity from the port,
wherein the first mass portion and second mass portion have at least one different physical property.
10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein the polymer material is associated with a polymer material volume, and wherein the face portion thickness is related to the polymer material volume by the equation 0.01≤T f /V e ≤0.2, where T f is the face portion thickness in units of inch, and V e is the polymer material volume in units of in 3 .
11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein the port is configured to receive the first mass portion.
12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 further comprising a bonding portion configured to attached the polymer material to a back surface of the face portion.
13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 further comprising another port located below a horizontal midplane of the body portion.
14 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein the first mass portion is associated with a first density and the second mass portion is associated with a second density, and wherein the first density is less than the second density.
15 . A golf club head as defined in claim 9 , wherein the second mass portion is located farther from the top portion than the first mass portion.
16 . A golf club head comprising:
a first club head portion having a thickness between a front surface and a back surface, the first club head portion configured to strike a golf ball;
a second club head portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, a front portion, and an interior cavity;
a first port located closer to the toe portion than the heel portion and connected to the interior cavity;
a second port located below a horizontal midplane of the second club head portion and being farther from the toe portion than the first port;
a first port-engaging portion coupled to the second club head portion;
a second port-engaging portion coupled to the second club head portion, the second port-engaging portion located farther from the top portion and the first club head portion than the first port-engaging portion; and
a polymer material injected into the interior cavity from the first port,
wherein the first port-engaging portion and the second port-engaging portion have at least one different physical property.
17 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the thickness of the first club head portion comprises a thickness between about 0.02 inch (0.508 mm) and about 0.09 inch (2.286 mm).
18 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the second port-engaging portion is located farther from the toe portion than the first port-engaging portion.
19 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the polymer material is associated with a polymer material volume, and wherein the thickness of the first club head portion is related to the polymer material volume by the equation 0.01≤T f /V e ≤0.2, where T f is the thickness of the first club head portion in units of inch, and V e is the polymer material volume in units of in 3 .
20 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the first port-engaging portion is associated with a first density and the second port-engaging portion is associated with a second density, and wherein the first density is less than the second density.
