Abstract

Techniques are described for using sensor data derived from a monitoring system to drive personalized content. Sensor data captured by a monitoring system may be used to determine attributes of users of the monitoring system and/or attributes of a property monitored by the monitoring system. The determined attributes may be used to select content to present to users of the monitoring system. Content presentation may be made through the monitoring system and may be triggered based on events detected by the monitoring system.

Claims (72)

1. A monitoring application server for using data related to a monitoring system to deliver personalized relevant content, the monitoring application server comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one computer-readable storage medium coupled to the at least one processor having stored thereon instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

accessing sensor data collected by a monitoring system, the monitoring system being located at a property of a customer and including one or more sensors configured to sense attributes at the property;

selecting, from among a list of display interfaces, a presentation device based on the accessed sensor data;

determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content, the one or more attributes including at least one of:

an attribute of a user of the monitoring system,

a room designation attribute,

a timing attribute, or

a sensor measurement;

selecting, from among multiple options, electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes; and

triggering presentation of the selected electronic content on the selected presentation device,

wherein selecting, from among the list of display interfaces, the presentation device based on the accessed sensor data comprises:

using the accessed sensor data to determine whether the customer is located at the property; and

based on a determination that the user is not located at the property, selecting a portable device as the presentation device for the content.

The monitoring application server of claim 1 , wherein selecting, from among the list of display interfaces, the presentation device based on the accessed sensor data comprises selecting at least one of a monitoring system LCD display, a PDA, a phone, a Web-based interface, or a television display.

3. The monitoring application server of claim 1 , wherein selecting, from among the list of display interfaces, the presentation device based on the accessed sensor data comprises:

comparing locations of the display interfaces to a location of an event indicated as being detected in the accessed sensor data; and

based on comparison results, selecting the presentation device included in the monitoring system that is closest to the detected event.

4. The monitoring application server of claim 1 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, an attribute of a user of the monitoring system; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined attribute of the user of the monitoring system.

5. The monitoring application server of claim 4 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, the attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a short term attribute of the user that relates to current physical behavior associated with the user; and

wherein selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined short term attribute of the user.

6. The monitoring application server of claim 4 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, the attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a long term attribute of the user that relates to one or more physical attributes associated with the user monitored over time; and

wherein selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined long term attribute of the user.

7. The monitoring application server of claim 1 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a room designation attribute; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined room designation attribute.

8. The monitoring application server of claim 1 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a timing attribute; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined timing attribute.

9. The monitoring application server of claim 1 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a sensor measurement; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined sensor measurement.

10. A method for using data related to a monitoring system to deliver personalized relevant content, the method comprising:

accessing sensor data collected by a monitoring system, the monitoring system being located at a property of a customer and including one or more sensors configured to sense attributes at the property;

selecting, from among a list of display interfaces, a presentation device based on the accessed sensor data;

determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content, the one or more attributes including at least one of:

an attribute of a user of the monitoring system,

a room designation attribute,

a timing attribute, or

a sensor measurement;

selecting, from among multiple options, electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes; and

triggering presentation of the selected electronic content on the selected presentation device,

wherein selecting, from among the list of display interfaces, the presentation device based on the accessed sensor data comprises:

using the accessed sensor data to determine whether the customer is located at the property; and

based on a determination that the user is not located at the property, selecting a portable device as the presentation device for the content.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein selecting, from among the list of display interfaces, the presentation device based on the accessed sensor data comprises selecting at least one of a monitoring system LCD display, a PDA, a phone, a Web-based interface, or a television display.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein selecting, from among the list of display interfaces, the presentation device based on the accessed sensor data comprises:

comparing locations of the display interfaces to a location of an event indicated as being detected in the accessed sensor data; and

based on comparison results, selecting the presentation device included in the monitoring system that is closest to the detected event.

13. The method of claim 10 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, an attribute of a user of the monitoring system; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined attribute of the user of the monitoring system.

14. The method of claim 13 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, the attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a short term attribute of the user that relates to current physical behavior associated with the user; and

wherein selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined short term attribute of the user.

15. The method of claim 13 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, the attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a long term attribute of the user that relates to one or more physical attributes associated with the user monitored over time; and

wherein selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined attribute of the user of the monitoring system comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined long term attribute of the user.

16. The method of claim 10 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a room designation attribute; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined room designation attribute.

17. The method of claim 10 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a timing attribute; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined timing attribute.

18. The method of claim 10 :

wherein determining, based on the accessed sensor data, one or more attributes to use in selecting electronic content comprises determining, based on the accessed sensor data, a sensor measurement; and

wherein selecting, from among multiple options, the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the one or more determined attributes comprises selecting the electronic content to deliver to the customer based on the determined sensor measurement.
