Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes determining, by an application running on a client system of a user, one of a plurality of cameras of the client system being used to capture an image. The plurality of cameras may include a front camera and a back camera of the client system. The application may identify a user intent with respect to capturing the image based on one or more user-intent indicators. The user intent may indicate a type of image that the user is intending to capture. Responsive to identifying the user intent, the image may be captured using the determined camera.

Claims (48)

1 . A method comprising:

determining, by an application running on a client system of a user, one of a plurality of cameras of the client system being used to capture an image, the plurality of cameras comprising a front camera and a back camera of the client system;

identifying, by the application, a user intent with respect to capturing the image based on one or more user-intent indicators, the user intent indicating a type of image that the user is intending to capture; and

responsive to identifying the user intent, capturing the image using the determined camera.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user intent is to capture a selfie of the user using the front camera.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more user-intent indicators comprise:

the determined camera being the front camera;

a face recognition of the user;

an orientation range associated with the client system; or

a stable position of the client system.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing, by the application, an audible chime when the user intent is identified, the audible chime alerting the user to prepare for the image.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

prior to capturing the image, analyzing, by the application, a scene or a context surrounding the user; and

determining, by the application, whether the scene meets one or more conditions before the image is captured.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more conditions comprise one or more of a threshold degree of lighting and less than a maximum amount of shadows.

7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein:

if the scene does not meet the one or more conditions,

providing, by the application, feedback to the user to perform one or more actions in order for the scene to comply with the one or more conditions,

else, capturing the image using the determined camera.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the feedback is visual or audio feedback by the application.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the application, a voice command from the user instructing the application to capture the image, wherein the image is captured in response to receiving the voice command.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the image is captured without receiving an input from the user.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the application is a camera application associated with an online social network.

12 . One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:

determine, by an application running on a client system of a user, one of a plurality of cameras of the client system being used to capture an image, the plurality of cameras comprising a front camera and a back camera of the client system;

identify, by the application, a user intent with respect to capturing the image based on one or more user-intent indicators, the user intent indicating a type of image that the user is intending to capture; and

capture the image using the determined camera in response to identifying the user intent.

13 . The media of claim 12 , wherein the user intent is to capture a selfie of the user using the front camera.

14 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the one or more user-intent indicators comprise:

the determined camera being the front camera;

a face recognition of the user;

an orientation range associated with the client system; or

a stable position of the client system.

15 . The media of claim 12 , wherein the image is captured without receiving an input from the user.

16 . The media of claim 12 , wherein the application is a camera application associated with an online social network.

17 . A system comprising: one or more processors; and a non-transitory memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors operable when executing the instructions to:

determine, by an application running on a client system of a user, one of a plurality of cameras of the client system being used to capture an image, the plurality of cameras comprising a front camera and a back camera of the client system;

identify, by the application, a user intent with respect to capturing the image based on one or more user-intent indicators, the user intent indicating a type of image that the user is intending to capture; and

capture the image using the determined camera in response to identifying the user intent.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the user intent is to capture a selfie of the user using the front camera.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the one or more user-intent indicators comprise:

the determined camera being the front camera;

a face recognition of the user;

an orientation range associated with the client system; or

a stable position of the client system.

20 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the image is captured without receiving an input from the user.
