Abstract

A real-time fluoroscopic imaging system includes a collimator and a detector which are rotationally movable independent of the support assembly, e.g., c-arm, to which they are mounted. Rotational movement of the collimator and the detector are coordinated such that the orientation of the detector with respect to the collimator does not change. The collimator may include a geared flange member to facilitate rotation, and may be a single molded piece formed of a plastic such as tungsten polymer material. The system may also include a plurality of interchangeable collimators characterized by different shapes. A display is provided to present an image to an operator, and image orientation logic displays a target anatomy in a selected orientation regardless of orientation of the target anatomy relative to the detector, and regardless of rotation of the detector.

Claims (23)

1. A fluoroscopic imaging device, comprising:

an x-ray source assembly comprising a collimator;

a rotatable flat detector assembly separated by a gap from the x-ray assembly, and wherein a plane of rotation of the detector assembly matches a plane of rotation of the collimator, and the detector assembly is configured to automatically match a manual rotation of the collimator to maintain an orientation of the detector assembly with the x-ray source assembly.

2. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 1 , wherein the x-ray source assembly and the detector assembly are respectively mounted in facing relation such that an x-ray beam from the x-ray source assembly impinges on an input end of the detector assembly.

3. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 2 , wherein an axis of rotation of the detector assembly matches an axis of rotation of the collimator.

4. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 1 , wherein the collimator is mounted inside the x-ray source assembly.

5. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 1 , wherein the collimator is manually rotatable.

6. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 1 , further comprising a display configured to present at least a substantially real-time image of a target anatomy placed between the x-ray source assembly, and the detector assembly.

7. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 1 , further comprising a computer configured to process a plurality of data generated by the detector assembly.

8. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of data is displayed on a display for presenting an image to an operator.

9. The fluoroscopic imaging device of claim 1 , further including a rotation mechanism coupled to the detector, wherein the rotation mechanism controls rotation of the detector.

10. A method for manufacturing a fluoroscopic imaging device, comprising:

providing a medical imaging device including an x-ray source assembly and a collimator;

mounting a flat detector assembly to be at a distance from the x-ray assembly; and

wherein a plane of rotation of the collimator matches a plane of rotation of the detector assembly, the collimator and the detector assembly are rotatable on the same axis of rotation, and the detector assembly is configured to automatically match a manual rotation of the collimator to maintain an orientation of the detector assembly with the collimator.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising positioning the rotatable detector assembly in a facing relationship the x-ray source assembly and such that an x-ray beam from the x-ray source assembly impinges on an input end of the rotatable detector assembly.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein an axis of rotation of the rotatable detector matches an axis of rotation of the collimator.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising placing the collimator is inside the x-ray source assembly.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the x-ray source assembly is manually rotatable.

15. The method of claim 10 , further comprising providing a display configured to display a substantially real-time x-ray image.

16. The method of claim 10 , further comprising providing a computer configured to process a plurality of data generated by the detector assembly.

17. The method of claim 16 , providing for the plurality of data to be displayed on a display for presenting an image to an operator.

18. The method of claim 10 , providing a rotation mechanism to be coupled to the detector, wherein the rotation mechanism controls rotation of the detector.
