storing, by a computer system, account information for a plurality of accounts of an information distribution network, wherein the account information includes information for ones of the plurality of accounts, including a plurality of items of personal information associated with a first account, wherein the information distribution network allows different ones of the plurality of accounts to become associated, wherein the account information indicates that the first account is associated, within the information distribution network, with a subset of the plurality of accounts;

receiving, by the computer system for the first account, information identifying a plurality of groups within the subset of accounts that are associated with the first account, wherein the plurality of groups include a first group of accounts and a second group of accounts;

receiving, by the computer system, sharing preference information indicating that accounts included in the first group of accounts are authorized to access a first set of the plurality of items of personal information associated with the first account, and that accounts included in the second group of accounts are authorized to access a second set of the plurality of items of personal information associated with the first account;

providing, by the computer system via the information distribution network, access to the first set of items of personal information to accounts included in the first group of accounts, wherein the access to the first set of items of personal information is restricted to only those accounts included in the first group of accounts; and

providing, by the computer system via the information distribution network, access to the second set of items of personal information to accounts included in the second group of accounts, wherein the access to the second set of items of personal information is restricted to only those accounts included in the second group of accounts.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the providing access to the first set of personal information includes providing one or more items of the first set of personal information in an information feed of an account in the first group of accounts.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of items of personal information is included in both the first set and second sets of personal information.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one account is included in both the first group and the second group.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first set of personal information includes at least one of an image, a video, audio content, a calendar entry, contact information, or a personal message.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the computer system, a request to associate the first account with a second account of the information distribution network, wherein the first account and second account are not associated prior to the request;

after receiving the request, updating, by the computer system, the account information by associating the first account and the second account; and

receiving, by the computer system via the first account, updated sharing preference information specifying that the second account is included in the second group.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

providing, by the computer system via the information distribution network, access to the second set of items of personal information to the second account, wherein the second account was unable to access one or more of the second set of items of personal information prior to the updating the account information.

8. A non-transitory, computer-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of instructions that are executable by a computer system to cause operations comprising:

storing account information for a plurality of accounts of an information distribution network, wherein the account information includes information for ones of the plurality of accounts, including a plurality of items of personal information associated with a first account, wherein the information distribution network allows different ones of the plurality of accounts to become associated, wherein the account information indicates that the first account is associated, within the information distribution network, with a subset of the plurality of accounts;

receiving, for the first account, information identifying a plurality of groups, within the subset of accounts, that are associated with the first account, wherein the plurality of groups include a first group of accounts and a second group of accounts;

receiving sharing preference information indicating that accounts included in the first group of accounts are authorized to access a first set of the plurality of items of personal information associated with the first account, and that accounts included in the second group of accounts are authorized to access a second set of the plurality of items of personal information associated with the first account;

providing, via the information distribution network, access to the first set of items of personal information to accounts included in the first group of accounts, wherein the access to the first set of items of personal information is restricted to only those accounts included in the first group of accounts; and

providing, via the information distribution network, access to the second set of items of personal information to accounts included in the second group of accounts, wherein the access to the second set of items of personal information is restricted to only those accounts included in the second group of accounts.

9. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the providing access to the first set of personal information includes providing one or more items of the first set of personal information in an information feed of an account in the first group of accounts.

10. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the plurality of items of personal information is included in both the first set and second sets of personal information.

11. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein at least one account is included in both the first group and the second group.

12. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the first set of personal information includes at least one of an image, a video, audio content, a calendar entry, contact information, or a personal message.

13. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a request to associate the first account with a second account of the information distribution network, wherein the first account and second account are not associated prior to the request;

after receiving the request, updating the account information by associating the first account and the second account; and

receiving, via the first account, updated sharing preference information specifying that the second account is included in the second group.

14. The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise:

providing, via the information distribution network, access to the second set of items of personal information to the second account, wherein the second account was unable to access one or more of the second set of items of personal information prior to the updating the account information.
