Abstract

An automatic wireless docking system includes a source device that includes a source device display screen, a display device, and a sink device that is coupled to the display device. The sink device determines a location of the source device and determines a motion of the source device. The sink device then identifies a wireless docking intent of the source device with the sink device based on the location of the source device and the motion of the source device. In response to identifying the wireless docking intent, the sink device establishes a current wireless docking session between the source device and the sink device.

Claims (69)

1. A system, comprising:

a first device; and

a second device that is configured to:

determine a first location of the first device;

determine a first motion of the first device;

identify a current motion profile for the first device that is based on first location of the first device and the first motion of the first device; and

determine the current motion profile satisfies a threshold similarity with at least one previously stored motion profile and, in response, perform at least one first action.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second device is configured to:

establish an initial wireless communication session with the first device; and

receive first device information that includes a first device identifier, wherein the determining the current motion profile for the first device is based on the first location of the first device, the first motion of the first device, and the first device identifier.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the first device information includes at least one of location information used to determine the first location of the first device and motion information used to determine the first motion of the first device.

4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a plurality of third devices that are coupled to each other and the second device, wherein each of the plurality of third devices is the same type of device as the first device, and wherein each of the plurality of third devices is configured to:

receive, from one or more of the plurality of third devices, first information communicated from the first device to the one or more of the plurality of third devices; and

determine the first location of the first device and the first motion of the first device using the first device information.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a plurality of beacons coupled to the second device, wherein the second device is configured to:

receive beacon information from one or more of the plurality of beacons and first device information communicated between the first device and the one or more of the plurality of beacons; and

determine the first location of the first device and the first motion of the first device using the beacon information and the first device information.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one first action is a docking action between the first device and the second device.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second device is configured to:

determine a second location of the first device that is different than the first location;

determine a second motion of the first device that is different than the first motion;

identify at least one second action based on the second location of the first device and the second motion of the first device; and

perform, in response to identifying the at least one second action, the at least one second action.

8. An information handling system (IHS), comprising:

a communication subsystem that is configured to provide communication with devices;

a processing system that is coupled to the communication subsystem; and

a memory system that is coupled to the processing system and that includes instructions that, when executed by the processing system, cause the processing system to provide an action engine that is configured to:

determine, via the communication subsystem, a first location of a first device;

determine, via the communication subsystem, a first motion of the first device;

identify a current motion profile for the first device that is based on first location of the first device and the first motion of the first device; and

determine the current motion profile satisfies a threshold similarity with at least one previously stored motion profile and, in response, perform at least one first action.

9. The IHS of claim 8 , wherein the action engine is configured to:

establish an initial wireless communication session with the first device; and

receive first device information that includes a first device identifier, wherein the determining the current motion profile for the first device is based on the first location of the first device, the first motion of the first device, and the first device identifier.

10. The IHS of claim 9 , wherein the first device information includes at least one of location information used to determine the first location of the first device and motion information used to determine the first motion of the first device.

11. The IHS of claim 8 , wherein the action engine is configured to:

receive, from one or more of a plurality of second devices that are the same type of device as the IHS, first device information communicated from the first device to the one or more of the plurality of second devices; and

determine the first location of the first device and the first motion of the first device based on the first device information.

12. The IHS of claim 8 , wherein the action engine is configured to:

receive beacon information from one or more of a plurality of beacons and first device information communicated between the first device and the one or more of the plurality of beacons; and

determine the first location of the first device and the first motion of the first device based on the beacon information and the first device information.

13. The IHS of claim 8 , wherein the at least one first action is a docking action with the first device.

14. The IHS of claim 8 , wherein the action engine is configured to:

determine, via the communication subsystem, a second location of the first device that is different than the first location;

determine, via the communication subsystem, a second motion of the first device that is different than the first motion;

identifying at least one second action based on the second location of the first device and the second motion of the first device; and

perform, in response to identifying the at least one second action, the at least one second action.

15. A method, comprising:

determining, by a first device, a first location of a second device;

determining, by the first device, a first motion of the second device;

identifying, by the first device, a current motion profile for the second device that is based on first location of the second device and the first motion of the second device; and

determining, by the first device, the current motion profile satisfies a threshold similarity with at least one previously stored motion profile and, in response, perform at least one first action.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

establishing, by the first device, an initial wireless communication session with the second device; and

receiving, by the first device, second device information that includes a second device identifier, wherein the determining the current motion profile for the second device is based on the first location of the second device, the first motion of the second device, and the second device identifier.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the second device information includes at least one of location information used to determine the first location of the second device and first motion information used to determine the first motion of the second device.
