Abstract

In embodiments, apparatuses, methods, and storage media may be described for monitoring channel quality of a radio link between a secondary evolved NodeB (SeNB) and a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication network configured for dual connectivity. In embodiments, the UE may generate one or more indications of a channel quality of the SeNB-UE radio link and forward the indication to the SeNB. Based on the indication, the UE may receive a radio resource control (RRC) message from a master eNB (MeNB) related to the SeNB-UE radio link. Other embodiments may be claimed.

Claims (35)

1. One or more non-transitory, computer-readable media having instructions that, when executed, cause a user equipment (“UE”) to:

identify a first set of radio link monitoring (“RLM”) parameters for RLM of a first cell to be provided by a master evolved node B (“MeNB”) and a second set of RLM parameters, different than the first set of RLM parameters, for RLM of a second cell to be provided by a secondary evolved node B (“SeNB”), the first set of RLM parameters to indicate a first timer value and a first constant value and the second set of RLM parameters to indicate a second timer value and a second constant value;

monitor a first link quality of the first cell based on the first set of RLM parameters; and

monitor a second link quality of the second cell based on the second set of RLM parameters.

2. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein to monitor the link of the second cell, the instructions, when executed, cause the UE to:

determine that a number of received out-of-sync indications equals the second constant value; and

start a timer with the second timer value based on said determination that the number equals the second constant value.

3. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 2 , wherein the second set of RLM parameters further indicates a third constant value and the instructions, when executed, further cause the UE to:

determine that a number of received in-sync indications equals the third constant value; and

stop the timer based on said determination that the number of received in-sync indications equals the third constant value.

4. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the UE to: determine an average channel quality indicator of the link of the second cell, compare the average channel quality indicator to a threshold, and generate an in-sync indication or an out-of-sync indication based on said comparison.

5. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the UE to:

process a system information block (“SIB”) message, received from MeNB, to identify the second set of RLM parameters.

6. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 5 , wherein the SIB message is a SIB2.

7. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the second set of RLM parameters is to indicate a plurality of constant values including the second constant value.

8. An apparatus to be used in a user equipment (“UE”), the apparatus comprising:

means for determining a first set of radio link monitoring (“RLM”) parameters for RLM of a first cell to be provided by a master evolved node B (“MeNB”) and a second set of RLM parameters, different than the first set of RLM parameters, for RLM of a second cell to be provided by a secondary evolved node B (“SeNB”), the first set of RLM parameters to indicate a first timer value and a first constant value and the second set of RLM parameters to indicate a second timer value and a second constant value;

means for monitoring a first link quality of the first cell based on the first set of RLM parameters; and

means for monitoring a second link quality of the second cell based on the second set of RLM parameters.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising:

means for determining that a number of received out-of-sync indications equals the second constant value; and

means for starting a timer with the second timer value based on said determination that the number equals the second constant value.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , further comprising:

means for determining that a number of received in-sync indications equals a third constant value; and

means for stopping the timer based on said determination that the number of received in-sync indications equals the third constant value.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising: means for generating an in-sync indication or an out-of-sync indication based on comparison of an average channel quality indicator to a predetermined threshold.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising:

means for processing a system information block (“SIB”), received from the MeNB, to identify the second set of RLM parameters.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the second set of RLM parameters is to indicate a plurality of constant values including the second constant value.

14. One or more non-transitory, computer-readable media having instructions that, when executed, cause a master evolved node B (“MeNB”) to:

signal, to a user equipment (“UE”), a first set of radio link monitoring (“RLM”) parameters for RLM of a first cell to be provided by the MeNB and a second set of RLM parameters, different than the first set of RLM parameters, for RLM of a second cell to be provided by a secondary evolved node B (“SeNB”), the first set of RLM parameters to indicate a first timer value and a first constant value and the second set of RLM parameters to indicate a second timer value and a second constant value; and

processing a report related to monitoring of a link quality of the second cell based on the second set of RLM parameters.

15. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 14 , wherein the report includes a handover request and the instructions, when executed, further cause the MeNB to:

initiate a handover procedure based on the handover request.

16. The one or more non-transitory, computer-readable media of claim 14 , wherein, to signal the second set of RLM parameters, the MeNB is to transmit a system information block message.
