Abstract

A client information handling system application selectively communicates network packets simultaneously through plural network interfaces by leveraging network address translation at the network layer of the network packets. Network packets are distributed across the plural network interfaces to achieve desired network communication goals, such as bandwidth, data rates, quality of service, reliability and SAR requirements.

Claims (23)

1. A method for communicating between a client information handling system and an external network, the client information handling system having plural physical network interfaces, each of the plural physical network interfaces having an associated source network Internet Protocol address, wherein the plural physical network interfaces includes a first physical network interface having a first source network Internet Protocol address, the method comprising:

configuring a client application on the client information handling system to use one and only one of the plural physical interfaces to communicate information to the external network, the configuring includes configuring the client application to use only the first physical network interface to communicate to the external network by generating packets using the first source network Internet Protocol address as a source address for the generated packets;

generating network packets with the client application, the network packets having information related to the client application including the first source network Internet Protocol address;

analyzing the plural physical network interfaces for plural predetermined network communication factors;

based upon the analyzing, selecting plural of the plural physical network interfaces to communicate the network packets;

replacing at least some of the first source network Internet Protocol addresses of the network packets with associated source network Internet Protocol addresses of the plural physical network interfaces selected to communicate the network packets to the external network; and

communicating the network packets from the plural physical network interfaces selected to communicate the network packets to the external network, each of the network packets sent from the physical network interface of the plural physical network interfaces associated with the source network Internet Protocol address of the network packet, wherein at least one of the communicated packets is sent from the first physical network interface with the first source network Internet Protocol address.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving the network packets at an access point through the plural physical network interfaces selected to communicate the network packets to the external network;

replacing the source Internet Protocol addresses of the network packets with a single aggregated Internet Protocol address of the access point; and

communicating the network packets to the external network with the aggregated Internet Protocol address.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

receiving at the access point, from the external network, inbound network packets directed to the aggregated Internet Protocol address;

coordinating between the access point and another selected plural physical network interfaces of the client information handling system to communicate the inbound network packets from the access point to the client information handling system; and

replacing the aggregated Internet Protocol address in the inbound network packets with the associated source Internet Protocol address of the selected plural physical network interfaces.

4. The method of claim 3

wherein the coordinating comprises:

communicating from the client information handling system a specific absorption state to the access point; and

selecting the another plural physical network interfaces to communicate the inbound network packets from the access point to the client information handling system based upon the specific absorption state.

5. The method of claim 3

wherein the coordinating comprises:

communicating from the client information handling system a communication path associated with one of the plural physical network interfaces having a mesh network interface; and

selecting the another plural physical network interfaces to communicate the inbound network packets from the access point to the client information handling system based upon the communication path.
