Abstract

Methods and apparatus for efficiently directing communications are disclosed. On example entails receiving, from a mobile terminal, a communication directed to a cellular communication network, the communication being received in an alternative channel that differs from a channel of the cellular communication network. The communication is then converted for a relayed communication to the cellular communication network on behalf of the mobile terminal, the relayed communication being made through the cellular communication network.

Claims (51)

1. A wireless device associated with a unique identifier comprising:

a sensor configured to detect a change of a condition; and

a transmitter configured to send a wireless signal, via a WiFi network, in response to detection of the change by the sensor, the wireless signal comprising information corresponding to the unique identifier associated with the wireless device,

wherein the wireless device is configured to notify a user of a status update based on the detection of the change of the condition according to a configuration setting, the configuration setting comprising information regarding a setting for notifying the user of the status update;

wherein information regarding the status update is communicated to a user's mobile phone through the WiFi network, the WiFi network connected to a cellular network;

wherein a network address for the WiFi network is associated with a phone identifier of the user's mobile phone;

wherein the unique identifier is associated with the phone identifier for the user's mobile phone; and

wherein a configured data package comprises information for the network address for the WiFi network, the configured data package being from a cellular phone in initiating communications that are directed to the wireless device.

2. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device is dedicated to detect the change and transmit the wireless signal.

3. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the status update is associated with an item; and the condition is about the item.

4. The wireless device of claim 3 , wherein a replenishment of an inventory for the item is initiated based on the status update.

5. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device is a security monitoring device; and wherein one or more of the following is triggered to notify the user of the status update:

a). a sound,

b). a light, or

c). a text message.

6. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device is a video camera.

7. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device further comprises a wireless interface configured to receive, via the WiFi network, a compressed signal; and

a decoder configured to decompress the compressed signal to accommodate production of corresponding information content.

8. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device is configured to provide a network access for a mobile terminal.

9. A wireless device associated with a unique identifier comprising:

a sensor configured to detect a change of a condition; and

a transmitter configured to send a wireless signal, via a short range wireless communication channel, to a centralized wireless device, in response to detection of the change by the sensor, the wireless signal comprising information corresponding to the unique identifier associated with the wireless device;

wherein information regarding a status update in connection with the detection is communicated, through the centralized wireless device, via a WiFi network, to a user's mobile phone according to a configuration setting, the centralized wireless device connected to the WiFi network, the WiFi network connected to a cellular network, a network address for the WiFi network associated with a phone identifier for the mobile phone;

wherein the configuration setting comprises information regarding a setting for communicating the status update;

wherein the network address for the WiFi network is associated with a device identifier for the centralized wireless device;

wherein the unique identifier is associated with the phone identifier;

wherein the wireless device is designated to detect the change and transmit the wireless signal; and

wherein a configured data package comprises information for the network address for the WiFi network, the configured data package being from a cellular phone in initiating communications directed to the centralized wireless device.

10. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the short range wireless communication channel is a Zigbee channel.

11. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the short range wireless communication channel is established for transmission of the wireless signal in response to the detection of the change.

12. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the wireless device is a security monitoring device; and wherein one or more of the following is triggered to notify a user of the status update:

a). a sound;

b). a light; or

c). a text message.

13. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein a location of the wireless device is determined according to wireless communication information.

14. The wireless device of claim 9 , wherein the phone identifier, the unique identifier associated with the wireless device, the device identifier, and the network address for the WiFi network are registered and stored.

15. A wireless device connected to a local area network for bidirectional receiving and transmitting information comprising:

a video camera configured to record a video;

a decoder; and

a transceiver configured to transmit a compressed video signal through the local area network, the local area network connected to a cellular communication network, the compressed video signal corresponding to content of the video;

wherein the compressed video signal corresponding to the content of the video is communicated to a user terminal;

wherein a unique identifier of the wireless device is associated with an identifier of the user terminal;

wherein the video is compressed and stored;

wherein the transceiver is further configured to receive, through the local area network, a compressed signal corresponding to information content from a mobile phone;

wherein the compressed signal is decompressed, by the decoder, for production of the information content;

wherein a network address for the local area network is associated with a phone identifier for the mobile phone;

and

wherein a configured data package comprises information for the network address for the local area network, the configured data package being from a cellular phone in initiating communications that are directed to the wireless device.

16. The wireless device of claim 15 , wherein the local area network is a WiFi network.

17. The wireless device of claim 15 , wherein the compressed video signal is encrypted.

18. The wireless device of claim 15 , wherein the information content is a call.
