Abstract

An apparatus for delivering a bolus of a medical agent to a patient. The apparatus comprises a pump mechanism, a data input device, and a processor in data communication with the keypad and arranged to control the pump mechanism. The processor is programmed to receive data specifying a bolus amount through the data port, receive data regarding duration through the data port, receive a percentage through the data port, the percentage defining a portion of the bolus amount to deliver immediately upon executing a deliver command and a remainder of the bolus amount to deliver over the duration upon executing a deliver command, and execute the deliver command thereby controlling the pump mechanism to deliver the bolus. Also a method of temporarily adjusting the delivery rate of an infusion pump. The infusion pump is programmed to deliver a basal rate. The method comprises prompting a user to select whether to enter the temporary rate as a percent of the current delivery rate or as a new delivery rate; entering into the pump a period of time having a beginning and an end; entering into the pump a temporary basal rate; and delivering the therapeutic agent at a delivery rate substantially equal to the temporary basal rate during the period of time.

Claims (29)

1 . (canceled)

2 . A system, comprising:

a medical infusion pump, the medical infusion pump associated with a specific user; and

software configured to be operable on a computing device, wherein the software is programmed to:

receive information relating to operation of the medical infusion pump by the user through a connection between the medical infusion pump and the computing device; and

display information received from the medical infusion pump on a user interface presented on a display,

wherein the user interface includes a plurality of stacked windows, each window having a corresponding tab that is displayed on the user interface adjacent the tabs of the other windows, each tab being selectable to bring the window corresponding to that tab to a top of the stack as an active window in which a user can view and edit information while the windows corresponding to the other tabs remain in the background.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the software is further programmed to generate a report relating to use of the medical infusion pump by the user.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the software is programmed to display the report on the display.

5 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the report includes information regarding delivery of boluses of medicament provided by the medical infusion pump.

6 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the report includes information regarding basal delivery of medicament provided by the medical infusion pump.

7 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the report includes information regarding alerts provided by the medical infusion pump.

8 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the information includes historical information relating to use of the medical infusion pump by the user.

9 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the software is further programmed to display information received from the medical infusion pump in a graphical format on the display.

10 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the software is further configured to receive information from a plurality of medical infusion pumps associated with a plurality of different users.

11 . The system of claim 10 , where the software is further programmed to cause a window corresponding to a specific user of the plurality of users to be made the active window by upon selection of a name of the specific user on the user interface.

12 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the medical infusion pump is an insulin pump.

13 . A method of monitoring use of a medical infusion pump, comprising:

receiving at a computing device information from a medical infusion pump associated with a specific user relating to operation of the medical infusion pump by the user, the information received through a connection between the medical infusion pump and the computing device; and

displaying the information received from the medical infusion pump on a user interface presented on a display communicatively coupled with the computing device,

wherein the user interface includes a plurality of stacked windows, each window having a corresponding tab that is displayed on the user interface adjacent the tabs of the other windows, each tab being selectable to bring the window corresponding to that tab to a top of the stack as an active window in which a user can view and edit information while the windows corresponding to the other tabs remain in the background.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising generating a report relating to use of the medical infusion pump by the user.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising displaying the report on the display.

16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the report includes information selected from the group consisting of: delivery of boluses of medicament provided by the medical infusion pump, basal delivery of medicament provided by the medical infusion pump, and alarms provided by the medical infusion pump.

17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the information includes historical information relating to use of the medical infusion pump by the user.

18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein displaying the information includes displaying the information in a graphical format.

19 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving information from a plurality of medical infusion pumps associated with a plurality of different users.

20 . The method of claim 19 , where a window corresponding to a specific user of the plurality of users can be made the active window by selecting a name of the specific user on the user interface.

21 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the medical infusion pump is an insulin pump.
