Abstract

A push-on coaxial cable connector includes a port grip, a joint, and a cable clamp.

Claims (38)

1. A push-on F-type coaxial connector comprising:

a joint interposed between a port grip and a cable clamp;

a port grip bonnet includes a mouth and an adjacent throat;

a post includes a tubular stem and an end bell, the stem having a stem neck adjoining the end bell;

the bonnet is an electrical insulator and the post is an electrical conductor;

a joint collar interposed between the bonnet and a can, the collar for receiving the stem neck;

an end cap that slidably engages the can;

the bonnet and the end bell for receiving a mating F-type port;

the bonnet configured to circumferentially seal around an inserted port; and,

a bonnet throat wall for providing a first radial interference fit between the bonnet and the end bell.

2. A method of providing a push-on F-type coaxial connector comprising the steps of:

interposing a joint between a port grip and a cable clamp wherein a port grip bonnet is an electrical insulator and includes a mouth adjacent to a throat;

providing an electrically conductive post with a tubular stem and an end bell, the stem having a stem neck adjoining the end bell;

interposing a joint collar between the bonnet and a can, the collar for receiving the stem neck, the port grip bonnet and end bell for receiving a mating F-type port;

circumferentially sealing between the bonnet and the port when the port is inserted in the port grip bonnet;

providing a first radial interference fit between the bonnet and the end bell when the port is inserted in the port grip bonnet; and,

constraining end bell fingers from radial deflection via a spring ring surrounding end bell fingers.

3. A push-on F-type coaxial connector comprising:

a non-electrically conductive elastomeric housing that extends from one end of a connector to an opposite end of the connector;

the housing having an internally threaded mouth at one end and a compressible sleeve at an opposed end;

a central constriction of the housing and a metal sleeve passing through the constriction;

one end of the metal sleeve being enlarged and fitted into the housing near the threads; and,

an opposed end of the metal sleeve inserted in the compressible sleeve;

wherein the opposed end of the metal sleeve is for insertion in the end of a coaxial cable.

4. The connector of claim 3 further comprising:

when the connector is in use, a seal formed between a female F port and the housing.

5. The connector of claim 4 further comprising:

longitudinal slots in the enlarged end of the metal sleeve, the slots enabling the enlarged end of the metal sleeve to accommodate a female port whose outer diameter is initially larger than the inner diameter of the enlarged end of the metal sleeve.

6. The connector of claim 4 further comprising:

an end cap with a multisided cross-section such as a hexagon, the end cap for engaging and for compressing the compressible sleeve.

7. The connector of claim 3 further comprising:

an interference fit between the central constriction of the housing and the metal sleeve.

8. The connector of claim 7 further comprising:

an interference fit between the enlarged end of the metal sleeve and the housing.

9. The connector of claim 8 further comprising:

an end cap for engaging the compressible sleeve.

10. The connector of claim 8 further comprising:

an end cap for engaging and for compressing the compressible sleeve.
