Abstract

Variable-scale, modular, easily manufacturable, energy efficient, reliable, and computer-operated farming superstructure systems (FSS) may be used to produce cannabis for human consumption with minimal water and environmental impact. Methods to method to separate volatiles from cannabis are described. Methods to asexually clone a plurality of cannabis plants are also provided.

Claims (76)

1. A method to produce concentrated volatiles from cannabis, the method includes:

(a) providing a source of cannabis, the cannabis includes volatiles, the volatiles include terpenes, wax, and oil;

(b) after step (a), extracting the volatiles from the cannabis with CO 2 to form a CO 2 and volatiles mixture according to a method including:

(b1) separating the terpenes from the cannabis at a first temperature and a first pressure; and

(b2) after step (b1), separating the oil and the wax from the cannabis at a second temperature and a second pressure, the second temperature is greater than the first temperature, the second pressure is greater than the first pressure, the CO 2 and volatiles mixture includes CO 2 , oil, and wax;

(c) after step (b), removing the CO 2 from the CO 2 and volatiles mixture to produce extracted volatiles, the extracted volatiles includes oil and wax;

(d) after step (c), mixing the extracted volatiles with ethanol to produce an ethanol and volatiles mixture;

(e) after step (d), cooling the ethanol and volatiles mixture to form a cooled ethanol and volatiles mixture;

(f) after step (e), filtering the cooled ethanol and volatiles mixture to form a filtered ethanol and volatiles mixture;

(g) after step (f), evaporating the ethanol from the filtered ethanol and volatiles mixture under vacuum conditions to produce concentrated volatiles and vaporized ethanol;

(h) after step (g), condensing the vaporized ethanol to produce liquid ethanol and non-condensable gas, the non-condensable gas has a reduced amount of ethanol vapor relative to the vaporized ethanol; and

(i) after step (h), introducing the non-condensable gas to a vacuum system.

2. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol with a wiped-film evaporator.

3. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol with a falling film tubular evaporator.

4. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol with a rising film tubular evaporator.

5. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol with a forced circulation evaporator.

6. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol with a thermal vapor recompression evaporator.

7. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol with a mechanical vapor recompression evaporator.

8. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol with a distillation column.

9. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol from the filtered ethanol and volatiles mixture with an electrically-heated evaporator.

10. The method according to claim 1 , comprising:

in step (g), evaporating the ethanol from the filtered ethanol and volatiles mixture with an electrically-heated evaporator; wherein the evaporator includes a falling film tubular evaporator and/or a rising film tubular evaporator.
