Abstract

Example techniques relate to a playback device that facilitates queue identification. In an example implementation, a playback device stores an association between a playback queue and a first application identifier. After storing the association between the playback queue and the first application identifier, the playback device receives, from a first computing device, a first message comprising a second application identifier. The playback device determines that the second application identifier corresponds to the first application identifier, and responsive to determining that the second application identifier corresponds to the first application identifier, transmits, to the first computing device, a queue identifier associated with the playback queue.

Claims (48)

1. A method comprising:

transmitting, by a control device, one or more messages identifying (i) one or more media items and (ii) an application identifier associated with an application; and

receiving, by the control device, one or more messages indicating (i) a playback queue that has been populated with the one or more media items for playback by a playback device, the playback queue associated with the application identifier and (ii) a queue identifier that represents the playback queue.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

based on the one or more messages, displaying, via the application on the control device, a control interface to control playback of the playback device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the one or more messages comprises:

transmitting, via the control device, at least one message identifying (i) a playlist comprising the one or more media items and (ii) the application identifier associated with the application.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, via the application on the control device, an input to alter the playback queue; and

in response to receiving the input, transmitting, via the control device to the playback device, an additional message comprising: (i) a command to alter the playback queue and (ii) the queue identifier that represents the playback queue.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

causing the playback device to play back media content according to the altered playback queue represented by the queue identifier.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the command to alter the playback queue comprises:

a command to add one or more additional media items to the playback queue.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, from the playback device, an error message indicating that the queue identifier is no longer associated with the playback queue.

8. A tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause a control device to perform functions comprising:

transmitting one or more messages identifying (i) one or more media items and (ii) an application identifier associated with an application; and

receiving one or more messages indicating (i) a playback queue that has been populated with the one or more media items for playback by a playback device, the playback queue associated with the application identifier and (ii) a queue identifier that represents the playback queue.

9. The computer-readable medium for claim 8 , wherein the functions further comprise:

based on the one or more messages, displaying, via the application on the control device, a control interface to control playback of the playback queue.

10. The computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein transmitting the one or more messages comprises:

transmitting, via the control device, at least one message identifying (i) a playlist comprising the one or more media items and (ii) the application identifier associated with the application.

11. The computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the functions further comprise:

receiving, via the application on the control device, an input to alter the playback queue; and

in response to receiving the input, transmitting, via the control device to the playback device, an additional message comprising: (i) a command to alter the playback queue and (ii) the queue identifier that represents the playback queue.

12. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the functions further comprise:

causing the playback device to play back media content according to the altered playback queue represented by the queue identifier.

13. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the command to alter the playback queue comprises:

a command to add one or more additional media items to the playback queue.

14. The computer-readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the functions further comprise:

receiving, from the playback device, an error message indicating that the queue identifier is no longer associated with the playback queue.

15. A control device comprising:

one or more processors;

data storage storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the control device to perform functions comprising

transmitting one or more messages identifying (i) one or more media items and (ii) an application identifier associated with an application; and

receiving one or more messages indicating (i) a playback queue that has been populated with the one or more media items for playback by a playback device, the playback queue associated with the application identifier and (ii) a queue identifier that represents the playback queue.

16. The control device of claim 15 , wherein the functions further comprise:

based on the one or more messages, displaying, via the application on the control device, a control interface to control playback of the playback queue.

17. The control device of claim 15 , wherein transmitting the one or more messages comprises:

transmitting, via the control device, at least one message identifying (i) a playlist comprising the one or more media items and (ii) the application identifier associated with the application.

18. The control device of claim 15 , wherein the functions further comprise:

receiving, via the application on the control device, an input to alter the playback queue; and

in response to receiving the input, transmitting, via the control device to the playback device, an additional message comprising: (i) a command to alter the playback queue and (ii) the queue identifier that represents the playback queue.

19. The control device of claim 18 , wherein the functions further comprise:

causing the playback device to play back media content according to the altered playback queue represented by the queue identifier.

20. The control device of claim 18 , wherein the command to alter the playback queue comprises:

a command to add one or more additional media items to the playback queue.
