Abstract

A system, method, and computer-readable medium for facilitating treatment of a vehicle damaged in a crash utilizes near real-time monitoring of the market value of a vehicle type that includes the damaged vehicle, its vehicle parts, and/or one or more arranged vehicle treatments to approximate an extent of damage to the damaged vehicle and determine a prospective vehicle treatment facility for treating the damaged vehicle. In particular, the system continually monitors the market value of a vehicle, its vehicle parts, and/or a prescribed vehicle treatment to calculate a treatment complexity level, e.g., vehicle repair, total loss; for treating the damaged vehicle.

Claims (39)

1. A method implemented on a computer system for facilitating treatment of a vehicle damaged in a crash, the method comprising:

receiving, by the one or more processors via one or more sensors coupled to a damaged vehicle having a vehicle type and having one or more damaged vehicle parts, crash information about the damaged vehicle, the crash information including vehicle operating data of the damaged vehicle near or at the time of the crash including acceleration data from an accelerometer disposed within the damaged vehicle, and the one or more damaged vehicle parts including one or more of: a damaged hood, a damaged fender, a damaged bumper, a damaged radiator, a damaged light, a damaged water pump, a damaged battery, damaged struts, a damaged frame, a damaged gas tank, a damaged door, a damaged trunk lid, a damaged grille, a damaged front body panel, a damaged side body panel, a damaged rear body panel, a damaged quarter-panel, a damaged rocker body panel, a damaged driver-side body panel, or a damaged passenger-side body panel;

analyzing, by the one or more processors, the received crash information and historical damage information of other vehicles having the same vehicle type as the damaged vehicle and having damage to at least one of the same one or more damaged vehicle parts as the damaged vehicle;

identifying, by the one or more processors, a type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle based on analyzing the received crash information and historical damage information of other vehicles having the same vehicle type as the damaged vehicle and having damage to at least one of the same one or more damaged vehicle parts as the damaged vehicle, wherein the type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle includes one of a refinish, repair, or replacement treatment for each of the respective one or more damaged vehicle parts;

selecting, by the one or more processors, a vehicle treatment facility for treating the damaged vehicle based upon a capability of the vehicle treatment facility for providing the identified type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle; and

transmitting, by the one or more processors, information associated with treating the damaged vehicle.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving crash information about the damaged vehicle includes receiving a description of the damaged vehicle, and the received description includes an auditory description and/or a visual description.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the type of vehicle treatment further includes a price schedule for treating the damaged vehicle, and treating the damaged vehicle includes repairing, salvaging, or scrapping the damaged vehicle.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

monitoring, by the one or more processors, vehicle marketing information of the vehicle type that includes the damaged vehicle, the vehicle marketing information including a market value for the vehicle type, a market value for a vehicle part for the vehicle type, and/or a market value for a prescribed vehicle treatment for the vehicle type; and

modifying, by the one or more processors, the vehicle collision data based on a detected change in the monitored vehicle marketing information; wherein the determined type of vehicle treatment is based on the evaluation of the received crash information and the modified collision data.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the monitoring of the vehicle marketing information includes a periodic interval of a minute, an hour, a day, or a week.

6. A method implemented on a computer system for facilitating treatment of a vehicle damaged in a crash, the method executed by one or more processors programmed to perform the method, the method comprising:

receiving, by the one or more processors via one or more sensors coupled to a damaged vehicle having a vehicle type and having one or more damaged vehicle parts, crash information about the damaged vehicle, the crash information including vehicle operating data of the damaged vehicle near or at the time of the crash including acceleration data from an accelerometer disposed within the damaged vehicle, and the one or more damaged vehicle parts including one or more of: a damaged hood, a damaged fender, a damaged bumper, a damaged radiator, a damaged light, a damaged water pump, a damaged battery, damaged struts, a damaged frame, a damaged gas tank, a damaged door, a damaged trunk lid, a damaged grille, a damaged front body panel, a damaged side body panel, a damaged rear body panel, a damaged quarter-panel, a damaged rocker body panel, a damaged driver-side body panel, or a damaged passenger-side body panel;

analyzing, by the one or more processors, the received crash information and historical damage information of other vehicles having the same vehicle type as the damaged vehicle and having damage to at least one of the same one or more damaged vehicle parts as the damaged vehicle;

identify a type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle based on analyzing the received crash information and historical damage information of other vehicles having the same vehicle type as the damaged vehicle and having damage to at least one of the same one or more damaged vehicle parts as the damaged vehicle, wherein the type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle includes one of a refinish, repair, or replacement treatment for each of the respective one or more damaged vehicle parts;

selecting, by the one or more processors, a vehicle treatment facility for treating the damaged vehicle based upon a capability of the vehicle treatment facility for providing the determined type of vehicle treatment; and

transmitting, by the one or more processors, information associated with treating the damaged vehicle.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein receiving crash information about the damaged vehicle includes receiving a description of the damaged vehicle, and the description of the damaged vehicle includes an auditory description and/or a visual description.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein determining the type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle includes determining a price schedule for the type of vehicle treatment, and the type of vehicle treatment includes repairing, salvaging, or scrapping the damaged vehicle.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein determining the type of vehicle treatment includes evaluating, by the one or more processors, the crash information of the damaged vehicle with at least one vehicle treatment code of the vehicle type that includes the damaged vehicle.

10. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

monitoring, by the one or more processors, vehicle marketing information of the vehicle type that includes the damaged vehicle, the vehicle marketing information including a market value for the vehicle type, a market value for a vehicle part for the vehicle type, and/or a market value for a prescribed vehicle treatment for the vehicle type; and

modifying, by the one or more processors, the vehicle collision data based on a detected change in the monitored vehicle marketing information; wherein the determined type of vehicle treatment is based on the evaluation of the received crash information and the modified collision data.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the monitoring of the vehicle marketing information includes a periodic interval of a minute, an hour, a day, or a week.

12. A computer system for facilitating treatment of a vehicle damaged in a crash, the computer system comprising:

a computing device including one or more processors;

one or more sensors coupled to a damaged vehicle having a vehicle type and having one or more damaged vehicle parts and the one or more processors of the computing device, and the one or more damaged vehicle parts including one or more of: a damaged hood, a damaged fender, a damaged bumper, a damaged radiator, a damaged light, a damaged water pump, a damaged battery, damaged struts, a damaged frame, a damaged gas tank, a damaged door, a damaged trunk lid, a damaged grille, a damaged front body panel, a damaged side body panel, a damaged rear body panel, a damaged quarter-panel, a damaged rocker body panel, a damaged driver-side body panel, or a damaged passenger-side body panel; and

one or more memory devices coupled to the one or more processors of the computing device, the one or more memory devices storing executable instructions that when executed by the one or more processors of the computing device cause the computer system to:

receive, by the one or more processors via the one or more sensors, crash information about the damaged vehicle, the crash information including vehicle operating data of the damaged vehicle near or at the time of the crash that includes acceleration data from an accelerometer disposed within the damaged vehicle;

analyze the received crash information and historical damage information of other vehicles having the same vehicle type as the damaged vehicle and having damage to at least one of the same one or more damaged vehicle parts as the damaged vehicle;

identify a type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle based on analyzing the received crash information and historical damage information of other vehicles having the same vehicle type as the damaged vehicle and having damage to at least one of the same one or more damaged vehicle parts as the damaged vehicle, wherein the type of vehicle treatment associated with treating the damaged vehicle includes one of a refinish, repair, or replacement treatment for each of the respective one or more damaged vehicle parts;

select a vehicle treatment facility for treating the damaged vehicle based upon a capability of the vehicle treatment facility for providing the identified type of vehicle treatment; and

transmit information associated with treating the damaged vehicle.

13. The computer system of claim 12 , wherein the vehicle collision data includes a particular type of vehicle treatment equated to a particular collision data.

14. The computer system of claim 12 , wherein the instructions further include:

monitor vehicle marketing information of the vehicle type that includes the damaged vehicle, the vehicle marketing information including a market value for the vehicle type, a market value for a vehicle part for the vehicle type, and/or a market value for a prescribed vehicle treatment for the vehicle type; and

modify the vehicle collision data based on a detected change in the monitored vehicle marketing information; wherein the determined type of vehicle treatment is based on the evaluation of the received crash information and the modified collision data.

15. The computer system of claim 14 , wherein the monitoring of the vehicle marketing information includes a periodic interval of a minute, an hour, a day, or a week.
