Devices and methods for delivery of valve prostheses
A valve prosthesis, implantation device, and methods for use are provided. The devices described herein may be used for transcatheter delivery of an aortic valve prosthesis or transapical delivery of a mitral valve prosthesis. The implantation device can utilize movable claspers for both positioning and anchoring the valve prosthesis, reducing the extent of imaging needed during the implantation procedure.
1. A valve prosthesis, comprising:
a support frame having an outer surface and defining a central orifice, the support frame radially being expandable to an expanded configuration;
flexible leaflets attached to the support frame to permit one-way flow through the orifice when the support frame is in its expanded configuration; a coupling component; and
a valve clasper movably coupled to the support frame via the coupling component such that the valve clasper is movable relative to the support frame along a longitudinal axis of the valve prosthesis between a nesting position with the outer surface of the support frame and an engagement position with a valve annulus wherein the valve clasper is physically separated from the support frame.
2. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the support frame comprises a shape-memory material.
3. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the support frame has a radius r in its expanded configuration, and the valve clasper is dimensioned to concentrically nest with the support frame when the support frame is in its expanded configuration.
4. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the valve clasper comprises a first leg member, a second leg member and a u-shaped member, wherein each of the first leg member and the second leg member has a first end and a second end, and the first leg member and the second leg member are joined to the u-shaped member.
5. The valve prosthesis of claim 4 , wherein the second ends of the first and second leg members terminate in a detent.
6. The valve prosthesis of claim 4 , wherein the support frame is at least partially covered by a covering.
7. The valve prosthesis of claim 6 , wherein at least a portion of the first and second legs are disposed between the support frame and the covering.
8. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the valve clasper comprises a u-shaped member.
9. The valve prosthesis of claim 8 , wherein the support frame is at least partially covered by a covering.
10. The valve prosthesis of claim 9 , wherein at least a portion of the u-shaped member is disposed between the support frame and the covering.
11. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the valve clasper is a multiplex unit comprising two or more u-shaped members and two or more apex members, wherein a first u-shaped member is permanently attached to a second u-shaped member via a first and second apex member and one clasper multiplex leg member.
12. The valve prosthesis of claim 11 , wherein the multiplex leg member terminates in a detent.
13. The valve prosthesis of claim 11 , wherein the support frame is at least partially covered by a covering.
14. The valve prosthesis of claim 13 , wherein at least a portion of the multiplex leg member is disposed between the support frame and the covering.
15. The valve prosthesis of claim 11 , wherein the multiplex leg member comprises one or more barbs.
16. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the valve clasper defines the coupler component.
17. A valve prosthesis, comprising:
a radially expandable support frame having an outer surface, a central orifice, and a longitudinal axis;
flexible leaflets attached to the support frame to permit one-way flow through the orifice when the support frame is in an expanded configuration;
a coupling component; and
a valve anchor movably coupled to the support frame via the coupling component to permit the valve anchor to be movable relative to the support frame along the longitudinal axis from an engagement
configuration in which the valve anchor and the support frame are collapsed against an implantation device to a nesting configuration in which the support frame is positioned within the valve anchor, the valve anchor being physically separate from the support frame.
18. The valve prosthesis of claim 17 , further comprising a covering that partially covers the support frame.
19. The valve prosthesis of claim 17 , wherein the valve anchor comprises three u-shaped members.
20. The valve prosthesis of claim 19 , wherein the three u-shaped members each comprise a pair of opposing apices at which each of the three u-shaped members is coupled to an adjacent one of the three u-shaped members.
21. The valve prosthesis of claim 20 , wherein the valve anchor further comprises three clasper engagement portions that are interposed at couplings of the apices of the three u-shaped members, the clasper engagement portions being configured to facilitate engagement of a delivery system with the valve prosthesis and manipulation of the valve anchor.
22. The valve prosthesis of claim 17 , wherein a portion of the valve anchor defines the coupler component.
