Compositions comprising bacterial strains
The invention provides compositions comprising one or more bacterial strains for treating or preventing visceral hypersensitivity.
1. A method of treating visceral hypersensitivity in a subject comprising administering to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising Blautia hydrogenotrophica in an amount of 1×10 3 to 1×10 12 CFU/g with respect to total weight of the pharmaceutical composition, sufficient to treat the visceral hypersensitivity in the subject, wherein the Blautia hydrogenotrophica comprises a 16S rRNA gene sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5, and wherein the administering results in: an increase in an amount of butyrate in the gastrointestinal tract of the subject relative to a corresponding amount of butyrate prior to the administering; or a decrease in an amount of a sulphide reducing bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract of the subject relative to a corresponding amount of the sulphide reducing bacteria prior to the administering.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of the sulphide reducing bacteria is determined by measuring an amount of the sulphide reducing bacteria in feces.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the method reduces abdominal pain in the subject.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is a human.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is encapsulated in one or more capsules.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, diluent, or carrier.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the Blautia hydrogenotrophica is lyophilized.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is formulated for oral delivery.
9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an enteric coating.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject has abdominal pain, wherein the abdominal pain is diffuse abdominal pain.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject does not have irritable bowel syndrome.
