Abstract

Systems and methods for continuous infusion of a fluid, which may be heated, into a balloon catheter. A system for balloon inflation, the system comprising a catheter having an inflow lumen and an outflow lumen, a balloon positioned at a distal end of the catheter, the balloon being in fluid communication with the inflow and the outflow lumen, and an infusion device in fluid communication with the balloon through the inflow and outflow lumens, the infusion device configured for continuously circulating a fluid into and out of the balloon to maintain the balloon at a constant pressure and volume by matching a flow of the fluid into the balloon via the inflow lumen with a flow of the fluid out of the balloon via the outflow lumen in order to keep the balloon volume and pressure constant during an entire infusion.

Claims (7)

1 . A system for ablation of a target tissue comprising:

a balloon having one or more heated compartments and one or more insulating compartments;

a heated fluid contained in the one or more heated compartments; and

an insulation fluid contained in the one or more insulating compartments, wherein a distribution of the one or more heated compartments among the one or more insulating compartments is selected to provide a desired ablation pattern at a target tissue.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the balloon comprises an outer balloon and an inner balloon disposed within the outer balloon, the inner balloon being shaped so when the inner balloon is inflated, the inner balloon forms one or more point of contact to form the heated compartments and insulating compartments.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more points of contact define the desired ablation pattern for the target tissue.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the insulating fluid is a gas.
