Abstract

Systems and methods relating to full duplex mesh networks are disclosed. In one embodiment, a mesh network comprising a first base station may be disclosed, the first base station comprising: a first transceiver for transmitting and receiving to and from the first base station on the single frequency band; and a second transceiver for transmitting and receiving to and from a second base station on the single frequency band, each transceiver of each transceiver node performing self-interference cancellation to send and receive full duplex data on the single frequency band at substantially the same time, thereby enabling the creation of a mesh network with at least one transceiver node having both access and backhaul using only the single frequency band.

Claims (22)

1. A wireless network comprising:

a first base station acting as a backhaul node, further comprising:

a first transceiver for transmitting and receiving to and from a second base station using a single frequency band, and

a second transceiver for transmitting and receiving to and from a third base station using the single frequency band;

wherein the first base station, the second base station, and the third base station are configured to perform self-interference cancellation to send and receive full duplex data on the single frequency band via an X2 protocol message exchange,

thereby enabling the creation of a wireless network via the first base station, the wireless network having both access and backhaul using only the single frequency band and providing backhaul connectivity to a plurality of mobile devices connected to the second base station and the third base station through the first base station.

2. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the single frequency band is used by the first base station, the second base station, and the third base station.

3. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the first base station, the second base station, and the third base station comprise a single antenna for both transmitting and receiving on the single frequency band.

4. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the single frequency band is Long Term Evolution (LTE) band 14.

5. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the first base station, the second base station, and the third base station are capable of transmitting and receiving on one or more Long Term Evolution (LTE) frequency bands.

6. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein each transceiver is enabled to provide full-duplex communication.

7. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein each transceiver is a single antenna.

8. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the first base station, the second base station, and the third base station form a self-organizing mesh with access and backhaul without coordination from a core network.

9. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the first base station, the second base station, and the third base station are eNodeBs.

10. The wireless network of claim 1 , the first base station further comprising a self-interference cancellation circuit for canceling interference caused by transmission from the first transceiver at the first transceiver, and for cancelling interference caused by transmissions from the second transceiver at the second transceiver.

11. The wireless network of claim 1 , the first base station further comprising a self-interference cancellation circuit for canceling interference caused by transmission from the first transceiver at the second transceiver, and for cancelling interference caused by transmissions from the second transceiver at the first transceiver.

12. The wireless network of claim 1 , the first base station further configured to use a Long Term Evolution (LTE) uplink band for sending data and an LTE downlink band for receiving data.

13. The wireless network of claim 1 , the first base station further comprising a self-interference cancellation circuit for canceling interference at the first base station caused by transmission of data received from the second base station and the third base station.

14. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the first base station, the second transceiver base station, and the third base station have connectivity to at least two other nodes in the wireless network.

15. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the X2 protocol message exchange is between at least two base stations of the first base station, the second base station, and the third base station.

16. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the X2 protocol message exchange is used to reserve frequency channels or time division channels.

17. The wireless network of claim 1 , wherein the X2 protocol message exchange is between an aggressor base station and a victim base station to communicate interfering signal information from the aggressor base station to the victim base station, thereby enabling the victim base station to use the interfering signal information in self-interference cancellation at the victim base station.
