Abstract

An assembly includes a simulated nut-and-washer member and a mounting device. The simulated nut-and-washer member includes a base plate simulating a washer, and a cylindrical portion simulating a nut and having a top surface and an outer sidewall with a plurality of faces, the top surface defining a first circular opening having a first diameter. An inner annular surface is disposed radially inward from the outer sidewall and defines a second circular opening disposed coaxial with the first circular opening and having a diameter that is less than the first diameter. The mounting device is configured to be received through the first and second circular openings, and it has a head portion that is configured to contact the inner annular surface.

Claims (42)

1. A decorative hardware assembly, comprising:

a nut-and-washer connector configured to structurally connect to a first architectural member, the nut-and-washer connector comprising:

a plurality of outer surfaces configured to simulate a hex nut;

an integral flange portion configured to simulate a hardware washer and being disposed radially external to the plurality of outer surfaces;

an inner cylindrical surface disposed radially internal to the plurality of outer surfaces;

an intermediate cylindrical surface disposed radially between the plurality of outer surfaces and the inner cylindrical surface;

an inner annular surface disposed radially between the inner cylindrical surface and the intermediate cylindrical surface;

wherein the plurality of outer surfaces, the integral flange, the inner cylindrical surface, the intermediate cylindrical surface, and the inner annular surface are portions of a same unitary body;

a cap being disposed within the intermediate cylindrical surface and an exposed top surface of the cap being planar and defining a tool receiving opening; and

a threaded shaft surrounded by the inner cylindrical surface, the cap and threaded shaft being removable from the nut-and-washer connector.

2. The decorative hardware assembly of claim 1 wherein the threaded shaft is configured to penetrate the first architectural member.

3. The decorative hardware assembly of claim 1 wherein the threaded shaft is separate from the cap.

4. The decorative hardware assembly of claim 1 wherein the cap includes an outer threaded surface in threaded engagement with the intermediate cylindrical surface.

5. The decorative hardware assembly of claim 1 wherein the exposed top surface of the cap is disposed substantially flush with an upper annular surface of the nut-and-washer connector.

6. A decorative hardware assembly, comprising:

a nut-and-washer member configured to structurally connect to a first architectural member, the nut-and-washer member comprising:

a base plate simulating a washer;

a cylindrical portion comprising a top surface and an outer sidewall having six faces simulating a hex nut, the top surface defining a first circular opening having a first diameter, the base plate extending radially beyond the cylindrical portion; and

an inner annular surface disposed radially inward from the outer sidewall, the inner annular surface defining a second circular opening disposed coaxial with the first circular opening and having a diameter that is less than the first diameter, the inner annular surface configured to contact a head portion of a screw and receive a compressive force from the head portion to attach the nut-and-washer member to the first architectural member; and

a cap configured to be disposed within the first circular opening and having an exposed planar upper surface defining a tool receiving opening.

7. The assembly of claim 6 further comprising the screw configured to be received through the first and second circular openings and the head portion of the screw contacting the inner annular surface, the screw and the cap being removable from the nut-and-washer member.

8. A method of simulating an architectural hardware installation, comprising:

providing a simulated nut-and-washer member comprising:

a base plate simulating a washer;

a cylindrical portion comprising a top surface and an outer sidewall having six faces simulating a hex nut, the top surface defining a first circular opening having a first diameter, the base plate extending radially beyond the cylindrical portion; and

an inner annular surface disposed radially inward from the outer sidewall, the inner annular surface defining a second circular opening disposed coaxial with the first circular opening and having a diameter that is less than the first diameter; and

positioning the base plate proximate a surface of an architectural member;

driving a mounting device through the first and second circular openings and penetrating the architectural member until a head portion of the mounting device contacts the inner annular surface and imparts a compressive force thereto; and

positioning a cap such that the cap is disposed within the first circular opening, an exposed planar upper surface of the cap defining a tool receiving opening.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the architectural member is a beam.

10. The method of claim 8 wherein positioning the cap comprises threading an outer threaded surface of the cap with a corresponding threaded surface of the cylindrical portion.

11. The method of claim 8 wherein the exposed planar upper surface of the cap is disposed substantially flush with the top surface of the simulated nut-and-washer member.

12. A decorative hardware assembly, comprising:

a nut-and-washer connector configured to structurally connect to an architectural member comprising:

a plurality of outer surfaces configured to simulate a hex nut;

an integral flange portion configured to simulate a hardware washer and being disposed radially external to the plurality of outer surfaces;

an inner cylindrical surface disposed radially internal to the plurality of outer surfaces;

an intermediate cylindrical surface disposed radially between the plurality of outer surfaces and the inner cylindrical surface;

an inner annular surface disposed radially between the inner cylindrical surface and the intermediate cylindrical surface, the inner annular surface being configured to contact and receive a compressive force from a head portion of a screw and the inner cylindrical surface configured to surround a shaft portion of the screw to attach the nut-and-washer connector to the architectural member;

wherein the plurality of outer surfaces, the integral flange, the inner cylindrical surface, the intermediate cylindrical surface, and the inner annular surface are portions of a same unitary body; and

a cap being configured to be disposed within the intermediate cylindrical surface and an exposed top surface of the cap being planar and defining a tool receiving opening.

13. The decorative hardware assembly of claim 12 further comprising the screw, the shaft portion of the screw being surrounded by the inner cylindrical surface, wherein the cap and the shaft portion being removable from the nut-and-washer connector.
