Abstract

A telescopic column includes a first telescopic element and a second telescopic element moveable linearly with respect to one another, at least one drive unit connected to the first telescopic element, at least one connecting element configured to transmit a force from the drive unit to the second telescopic element, a monitoring unit configured to detect an operating parameter of the connecting element, and a switch configured to send a signal to the monitoring unit in response to the detected operating parameter being outside a predetermined range.

Claims (39)

1. A telescopic column, comprising:

a first telescopic element and a second telescopic element moveable linearly with

respect to one another,

at least one drive unit connected to the first telescopic element,

at least one connecting element configured to transmit a force from the drive unit to the second telescopic element,

a monitoring unit including a detector element in contact with the at least one connecting element, the monitoring unit being configured to detect an operating parameter of the at least one connecting element, and

a switch configured to send a signal to the monitoring unit in response to the detected operating parameter being outside a predetermined range,

wherein the detector element comprises a preloadable lever arm configured to apply a predetermined force against the at least one connecting element and a counter-force element by which a counter-force is exerted on the at least one connecting element so that a basic tension, generated in this manner, on the at least one connecting element forms the operating parameter.

2. The telescopic column according to claim 1 , further comprising a second drive unit and a second connecting element configured to transmit a force from the second drive unit to the second telescopic element.

3. The telescopic column according to claim 1

wherein the detector element is located in a first position when the detected operating parameter is in the predetermined range and in a second position when the detected operating parameter is outside the predetermined range.

4. The telescopic column according to claim 3 , wherein,

the force and the counter-force are chosen such that in a normal operating state the at least one connecting element a balance of the two forces prevails and the lever arm is held in a balance position,

the at least one connecting element is configured such that a change of the basic tension changes the balance such that the lever arm is deflectable out of its balance position, and

the switch is configured such that with deflection of the lever arm out of its balance position the signal is sent to the monitoring unit.

5. The telescopic column according to claim 4 , wherein the counter-force element is a spring disposed between the at least one connecting element and the first telescopic element.

6. The telescopic column according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one connecting element is a cable, a belt, or a chain.

7. The telescopic column according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one drive unit comprises a shaft on which the at least one connecting element is windably disposed, so that with winding or unwinding of the at least one connecting element due to its connection to the second telescopic element this telescopic element is movable linearly with respect to the first telescopic element.

8. The telescopic column according to claim 1 , wherein a change of the operating parameter is defined by a failure or wear of the at least one connecting element.

9. The telescopic column according to claim 1 , wherein with failure or wear of the at least one connecting element the counter-force is entirely or partially eliminated.

10. The telescopic column according to claim 1 , wherein in response to the signal being received at the monitoring unit a motor of the at least one drive unit is stopped.

11. The telescopic column according to claim 1 , wherein the operating parameter of the at least one connecting element is a tension of the at least one connecting element.

12. A telescopic column, comprising:

a first telescopic element and a second telescopic element moveable linearly with respect to one another,

at least one drive unit connected to the first telescopic element,

at least one cable configured to transmit a force from the at least one drive unit to the second telescopic element, the at least one cable having a tension,

a lever arm pressing against the at least one cable, the lever arm being held in a first position by the tension when the tension is greater than or equal to a predetermined amount, and being configured to shift to a second position when the tension is less than the predetermined amount,

a switch operatively connected to the lever arm and configured to generate a signal only when the lever arm is in the second position, and

a monitoring unit operatively connected to the switch and configured to receive the signal and to stop the at least one drive unit in response to the signal being received.

13. The telescopic column according to claim 12 ,

wherein the at least one cable comprises a first cable and a second cable,

wherein the lever arm includes a first portion pressing against the first cable and a second portion pressing against the second cable.

14. A telescopic column, comprising:

a first telescopic element and a second telescopic element moveable linearly with respect to one another,

at least one drive unit connected to the first telescopic element,

at least one connecting element configured to transmit a force from the at least one drive unit to the second telescopic element,

a detector for detecting an operating parameter of the at least one connecting element and stopping the at least one drive unit in response to the operating parameter being outside a predetermined range, said detector having a lever arm in contact with the at least one connecting element.

15. The telescopic column according to claim 14 , wherein the at least one connecting element comprises at least one cable and wherein the operating parameter is a tension of the at least one cable.

16. The telescopic column according to claim 15 , wherein the at least one cable comprise a first cable and a second cable.
