Abstract

In various embodiments, the mounting systems described herein may be configured to mount a solar panel array to a flat concrete roof like those found throughout the Caribbean and Central and South America. Other systems described herein may be configured to facilitate mounting structures on standing seam metals roofs. Still other systems described herein may be configured to facilitate mounting structures on composite shingle, slate, or tile roofs. The mounting systems described herein may be configured as rail-less or rails free roof mounting systems.

Claims (32)

1. A roof mount block, comprising:

a body including a bearing surface comprising a plurality of serrations, the body defining an integrally formed attachment point and an integrally formed slot,

the attachment point comprising a point, wherein the plurality of serrations are disposed in a first direction and the point is disposed in a second direction,

the slot having a U shaped profile and being configured to receive a standing seam of a standing seam metal roof,

wherein the attachment point is disposed above the slot,

wherein the attachment point is at least partially defined through the bearing surface, and

wherein the attachment point is configured to receive a first fastener;

a second fastener installable through a portion of the body, wherein the second fastener protrudes into the slot in response being installed through the body; and

a mid-clamp slidably coupled to the body along the slot with the first fastener,

the mid-clamp comprising,

a first portion, a second portion and a spacer portion disposed between the first portion and the second portion,

a first bonding pin disposed in the first portion, and

a second bonding pin disposed in the second portion.

2. The roof mount block of claim 1 , wherein the first fastener is an assembly.

3. The roof mount block of claim 2 , wherein the assembly includes a t-nut and a fastener.

4. The roof mount block of claim 1 ,

wherein the first bonding pin engages a first frame of a first solar panel in response to the first solar panel being installed on the roof mount block, and

wherein the second bonding pin engages a second frame of a second solar panel in response to the second solar panel being installed on the roof mount block.

5. The roof mount block of claim 4 , wherein the mid-clamp creates an interference fit between the plurality of serrations, the point, the first frame and the second frame in response to the first solar panel and the second solar panel being installed on the roof mount block.

6. The roof mount block of claim 1 , wherein the mid-clamp is a clamp assembly.

7. The roof mount block of claim 6 , wherein the clamp assembly comprises a first bonding pin and a second bonding pin.

8. The roof mount block of claim 1 , wherein an electrical bond path is defined between the first frame, the mid-clamp and the second frame.

9. A roof mount block, comprising:

a body including an integral attachment point defined through a serrated bearing surface and a U shaped channel,

a point defined in the body along the attachment point, the point disposed opposite the serrated bearing surface;

a clamp assembly slidably coupled to the body via the attachment point,

wherein the clamp assembly deforms the point in response to a solar panel being installed on the roof mount block; and

a fastener installed through a portion of the body,

the fastener protruding into the U shaped channel in response being installed in the body, and

wherein the U shaped channel is configured to receive a standing seam of a standing seam metal roof.

10. The roof mount block of claim 9 , wherein the clamp assembly comprises a first bonding pin and a second bonding pin.

11. The roof mount block of claim 9 , wherein there is an interference fit between the clamp assembly, the serrated bearing surface, a solar panel frame of the solar panel, and the point in response to the solar panel being installed.
