Abstract

Devices of the present disclosure may macerate and extract debris from inside a lumen. Such devices may include an extraction core, a tube including a side wall and a window in the side wall, and a rotatable helical formation disposed inside the tube. In some embodiments, the rotatable helical formation has a variable pitch.

Claims (34)

1. An extraction device, comprising:

an extractor tube including a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, a side wall, and a window disposed in the side wall of the distal end portion;

an extraction core tube extending within the extractor tube, the extraction core tube including a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and a guidewire lumen, wherein the distal end portion of the extraction core tube is disposed at least partially within the extractor tube window;

a rotatable helical formation arranged coaxially about the distal end portion of the extraction core tube and at least partially inside the extractor tube window, wherein the helical formation is rotatable relative to the extraction core tube and the extractor tube window; and

a cage disposed so as to surround the distal end portion of the extractor tube and the extractor tube window.

2. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the window is located at a distal portion of the cage.

3. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the distal end portion of the extraction core tube protrudes from a distal end of the extractor tube.

4. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the helical formation comprises a wire wrapped around the extraction core tube.

5. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the helical formation and the extraction core tube are separated by a gap.

6. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the extractor tube comprises a cutting element.

7. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the distal end portion of the extraction core tube extends distally from the helical formation.

8. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the cage includes a distal end portion and a proximal end portion, the cage distal end portion having a finer mesh than the cage proximal end portion, and the window of the extractor tube is disposed within the distal end portion of the cage so as to be surrounded by the finer mesh of the distal end portion of the cage.

9. The extraction device of claim 1 , wherein the cage is movable between an expanded orientation and a contracted orientation by longitudinal movement of a distal end of the cage relative to a proximal end of the cage, and the extraction core tube and helical formation move longitudinally with the distal end of the cage.

10. An extraction device, comprising:

an extractor tube including a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, a side wall, and a window disposed in the side wall of the distal end portion;

a helical formation disposed at least partially inside, and coaxially with, the distal end portion of the extractor tube and within the window;

an extraction core tube including a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, and a guidewire lumen, the extraction core tube passing through the helical formation, and wherein the helical formation is wrapped directly around, and rotatable relative to, the extraction core tube and a distal end of the extractor tube while the extractor tube is rotationally stationary;

a control assembly disposed at the proximal end portion of the extraction core tube; and

a cage surrounding the distal end portion of the extractor tube and the window, the cage being fixed to the extractor tube.

11. The extraction device of claim 10 , further comprising a vacuum source.

12. An extraction device, comprising:

an extractor tube including a side wall and a window disposed in the side wall;

an extraction core tube including a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the distal end portion of the extraction core tube disposed inside, and coaxially with, the extractor tube, and extending within the window;

a helical formation separate from, and arranged coaxially about, the extraction core tube such that the helical formation may contact the extraction core tube, wherein the helical formation extends at least partially within the extractor tube window, and is rotatable relative to the extraction core tube and the window; and

a wire cage disposed about the extractor tube, the wire cage including a cutting edge, and wherein a distal end of the wire cage is operatively connected to move longitudinally with the extraction core tube and move relative to a proximal end of the wire cage, and wherein the window is located in an interior of the cage such that the cage surrounds the window of the extractor tube.

13. The extraction device of claim 12 , wherein the wire cage is expandable between an expanded orientation and a contracted orientation, and wherein the cutting element is disposed at an outermost edge of the wire cage in a radial direction from the longitudinal axis when the wire cage is in the expanded configuration.

14. An extraction device, comprising:

an extractor tube including a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, a side wall, a cutting edge, and a rectangular window disposed in the side wall at the distal end portion;

an extraction core tube disposed coaxially with the extractor tube;

a helical formation arranged inside the extractor tube and wrapped directly around the extraction core tube, wherein the helical formation has a variable pitch and is rotatable independently of the extraction core tube and while the extractor tube is rotationally stationary, and wherein the helical formation extends from a position proximal to the window of the extractor tube to a position distal to the window of the extractor tube; and

a wire cage disposed about the distal end portion of the extractor tube, wherein the wire cage is operatively connected to the extractor tube or the extraction core tube, wherein the wire cage includes a narrowed distal end when the cage is in an expanded orientation, and wherein the window is located in an interior of the cage such that at least one wire of the wire cage overlaps the window in a radial direction extending from the extraction core tube.

15. The extraction device of claim 14 , wherein an edge of the window forms the cutting edge.

16. The extraction device of claim 14 , wherein a distal end of the extractor tube forms the cutting edge.

17. The extraction device of claim 14 , wherein a distal end of the extractor tube is disposed inside the cage so as to be circumferentially surrounded by mesh of a distal end portion of the wire cage.
