Abstract

Various robotic surgical systems are provided. A robotic surgical system comprises a robotic tool, a control system, and a control module. The control system comprises a control console configured to receive a first user input, and also comprises a control unit in signal communication with the control console and the robotic tool. The control module is configured to receive a second user input, and is in signal communication with the control system.

Claims (45)

1. A robotic surgical system, comprising:

a robotic tool;

a control system, comprising:

a control console configured to receive a first user input; and

a control unit in signal communication with said control console and said robotic tool; and

a control module configured to receive a second user input, wherein said control module is in signal communication with said control system, wherein said control module comprises a mobile handheld device, and wherein said control system is configured to control said robotic tool based on said first user input and said second user input.

2. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said control module comprises a wireless mobile device.

3. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said robotic tool is configured to receive control inputs from said control system and said control module.

4. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said control unit comprises a situational awareness module configured to recommend a surgical function based on said second user input.

5. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said control system further comprises a manual override mode in which control of said robotic tool by said control module is prevented.

6. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said control module is positioned within a sterile field, and wherein said control console is positioned outside of the sterile field.

7. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said control module can gain control of said robotic tool by coming into physical contact with said robotic tool.

8. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said first user input at said control console allows said control module to control said robotic tool.

9. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said control module comprises a wearable device.

10. The robotic surgical system of claim 1 , wherein said control module comprises a tablet.

11. A robotic surgical system, comprising:

a robotic tool;

a control system, comprising:

a control console configured to receive a first user input; and

a control unit, wherein said control unit is configured to be in signal communication with said control console and said robotic tool; and

a control module configured to receive a second user input, wherein said control module is configured to be in signal communication with said control unit, wherein said control module is configured to issue commands to said control system, wherein said control module comprises a mobile handheld device, and wherein said control system operates said robotic tool based on said first user input and said second user input.

12. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control module comprises a wireless mobile device.

13. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control unit is configured to prioritize the control inputs received from said control system over the control inputs received from said control module.

14. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control unit comprises a situational awareness module configured to recommend a surgical function based on communication with said control module.

15. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control system further comprises a manual override mode in which control of said robotic tool by said control module is prevented.

16. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control module is positioned within a sterile field, and wherein said control console is positioned outside of the sterile field.

17. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control module can gain control of said robotic tool by coming into physical contact with said robotic tool.

18. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control module comprises a wearable device.

19. The robotic surgical system of claim 11 , wherein said control module comprises a tablet.

20. A system, comprising:

an end effector configured to perform at least one surgical function;

a control system, comprising:

a remote controller configured to receive a first user input for controlling said at least one surgical function; and

a local controller comprising a wireless transmitter, wherein said local controller is configured to receive a second user input for controlling said at least one surgical function, wherein said local controller is configured to be carried by a user within a sterile field, and wherein said control system is configured to convey said first user input and said second user input to said end effector in order to control said at least one surgical function;

a processor; and

a memory communicatively coupled to said processor, said memory storing instructions executable by said processor to:

receive the first user input; and

receive the second user input.

21. The system of claim 20 , wherein said control system is configured to prioritize the first user input over the second user input.

22. The system of claim 20 , further comprising a situational awareness module configured to recommend a surgical function based on communication with said local controller.

23. The system of claim 20 , wherein said remote controller is positioned outside of the sterile field, and wherein said local controller is positioned within the sterile field.

24. The system of claim 20 , wherein said local controller comprises a mobile wireless control module.

25. The system of claim 20 , wherein said local controller comprises a wearable device.

26. The system of claim 20 , wherein said local controller comprises a tablet.

27. The system of claim 20 , wherein said local controller comprises a handheld device.
