Abstract

A roof mount assembly mounts a structure to a roof having a rafter and a substrate supported by the rafter. The roof mount assembly includes a piece of flashing positioned on the substrate. The flashing includes a first surface, a second surface opposite the first surface and an aperture extending through the flashing. A fastener extends through the flashing aperture. A bracket is connected to the flashing via the fastener, and the bracket is sized to support at least one roof-mounted structure on the roof. A seal is positioned between the flashing aperture and the fastener. The seal is sized to form a water-tight seal with the aperture to inhibit flow of fluid through the aperture. The seal includes a first portion and a second portion, in which the first portion is positioned to abut the flashing first surface and the second portion is positioned to extend through the aperture.

Claims (46)

1. A roof mounting system, comprising:

flashing defining a first aperture and a protrusion surrounding the first aperture;

a base positionable on the flashing, the base including a second aperture alignable with the first aperture, the base comprising a first portion and a second portion,

wherein the second aperture is defined in the first portion,

wherein the first portion is configured to at least partially surround the protrusion,

wherein the first portion comprises a first plurality of channels,

wherein the second portion comprises a second plurality of channels,

wherein the second portion is configured to be adjustably coupled to the first portion, and

wherein the height of the base is adjustable;

a washer including a third aperture alignable with the first aperture and the second aperture;

a fastener installable through the third aperture, the second aperture and the first aperture.

2. The roof mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the protrusion is at least partially surrounded by the second aperture in response to the base being positioned on the flashing.

3. The roof mounting system of claim 1 , further comprising a seal installable in the flashing.

4. The roof mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the first plurality of channels is configured to at least partially engage the second plurality of channels.

5. The roof mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the base is configured to be height adjustable.

6. The roof mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the base is configured to support a solar panel mounting system.

7. The roof mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the first protrusion has a frustroconical profile.

8. The roof mounting system of claim 1 , wherein the second aperture has a frustroconical profile.

9. A solar panel mounting system, comprising:

flashing defining a first aperture and a protrusion surrounding the first aperture;

a base positionable on the flashing, the base including a second aperture alignable with the first aperture, the base comprising a first piece and a second piece,

wherein the first piece comprises a first plurality of height adjustment serrations,

wherein the second piece comprises a second plurality of height adjustment serrations,

wherein the second piece is configured to be adjustably coupled to the first piece, and

wherein the position of the second piece is adjustable relative to the first piece of the base;

a solar panel attachment operatively coupled to the base and configured to support at least a portion of a solar panel; and

a seal including a third aperture alignable with the first aperture and the second aperture; a fastener installable through the third aperture, the second aperture and the first aperture.

10. The panel mounting system of claim 9 , wherein the solar panel attachment is a rail.

11. The panel mounting system of claim 9 , wherein the solar panel attachment is a support shelf and mid-clamp.

12. The panel mounting system of claim 9 , wherein the position of the base is adjustable on the flashing.

13. The panel mounting system of claim 9 , wherein the protrusion is at least partially surrounded by the second aperture in response to the base being positioned on the flashing.

14. The panel mounting system of claim 9 , further comprising a seal installable in the flashing.

15. The panel mounting system of claim 9 , wherein the first protrusion has a frustroconical profile.

16. The panel mounting system of claim 9 , wherein the second aperture has a frustroconical profile.

17. A roof attachment point, comprising:

flashing comprising a raised portion and a protrusion, the flashing defining a first aperture;

a base positionable on the flashing, the base including a second aperture alignable with the first aperture, the base comprising a first portion and a second portion,

wherein the first portion comprises a first plurality of channels,

wherein the second portion comprises a second plurality of channels,

wherein the second portion is configured to be adjustably coupled to the first portion, and

wherein the second aperture is configured to at least partially surround the protrusion;

a washer including a third aperture alignable with the first aperture and the second aperture, the washer including a first portion and a second portion;

a fastener installable through the third aperture, the second aperture and the first aperture.

18. The attachment point of claim 17 , wherein the protrusion is defined within the raised portion.

19. The attachment point of claim 17 , wherein the protrusion is defined concentrically within the raised portion.

20. The attachment point of claim 17 , wherein the first aperture is defined concentrically within the protrusion and the raised portion.
