Abstract

An apparatus including a sensor and a control unit. The sensor may be configured to perform a snapshot configured to detect interior information about a vehicle. The control unit may comprise an interface configured to receive an event warning and the snapshot. The control unit may be configured to determine whether an event is imminent based on the event warning, activate the snapshot when the event is imminent, analyze the interior information based on the snapshot corresponding to the imminent event, determine an arrangement of corrective measures to deploy based on the interior information and the event warning and activate the corrective measures based on the arrangement.

Claims (17)

1 . An apparatus comprising:

a sensor configured to perform a snapshot configured to detect interior information about a vehicle; and

a control unit (i) comprising an interface configured to receive (a) an event warning and (b) said snapshot and (ii) configured to (a) determine whether an event is imminent based on said event warning, (b) activate said snapshot when said event is imminent, (c) analyze said interior information based on said snapshot to determine whether an occupant has a non-front-facing orientation, (d) determine an arrangement of corrective measures to deploy based on said orientation of said occupant, a predictive position model and said event warning and (e) activate said corrective measures.

2 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said snapshot is only performed after said event is determined to be imminent.

3 . The apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein said snapshot is performed before said event occurs.

4 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said snapshot is performed once after said event warning.

5 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said snapshot is performed using a terahertz radar technology.

6 . The apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein said interior information determined using said terahertz radar technology is acquired in less than 10 milliseconds.

7 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said interior information comprises an orientation of seats of said vehicle and body characteristics of occupants of said vehicle.

8 . The apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein said body characteristics comprise a height, a shape and a location of said occupants.

9 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said snapshot is performed using time-of-flight camera technology.

10 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said arrangement of corrective measures comprises modifying a first vehicle device to deploy a modified corrective measure.

11 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein (i) said snapshot indicates that a vehicle occupant is within a predefined distance from a steering wheel, (ii) said first vehicle device is said steering wheel and (iii) said modified corrective measure comprises pulling said steering wheel into a dashboard to preposition an air bag.

12 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein (i) said event warning provides a force direction and location and (ii) said force direction and location are used with said snapshot to perform predictive positioning.

13 . The apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein said predictive positioning is configured to determine potential positions of occupants and objects within said vehicle based on said interior information.

14 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said sensor performs (i) a physical detection of said interior and (ii) a vision detection of said interior.

15 . The apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein said physical detection and said vision detection are combined with sensor fusion to determine said corrective measures.
