Abstract

Specifically identified products are produced using powder formed from particles of a naturally occurring organic oxide mineral with substantially no free silica, preferably nepheline syenite, where the powder is essentially dry with a moisture content of less than 0.8% and has a controlled maximum particle size with 99.9% of the particles of the powder having a particle size of less than 10 microns defined as “fine grain ultra-fine” powder, which fine grain ultra-fine powder is preferably less than 6 microns, and where the fine grain ultra-fine powder comprises 3-25% by weight of the identified product.

Claims (39)

1. A product including fine grain ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder formed from particles where said powder has a controlled maximum particle size with 99.9% of said particles of said powder having a particle size of less than 10 microns, said ultra-fine powder comprising 3-25% by weight of said product and has a moisture content of less than 0.8%, and said product being selected from the class consisting of:

a) Clear liquid wood coating;

b) Clear liquid coating for flexible substrates;

c) Clear liquid coating for rigid substrates;

d) Nail polish;

e) Glass;

f) Metallurgical slag;

g) Refractory filler; and,

h) Pigment paste.

2. A product as defined in claim 1 wherein said powder is free of particles having a particle size less than about 0.2 microns.

3. A product including a fine grain ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder formed from particles where said powder has a controlled maximum particle size with 99.9% of said particles of said powder having a particle size of less than 10 microns, said fine grain ultra-fine powder comprising 3-25% by weight of said product and has a moisture content of less than 0.8%, and said product being selected from the class consisting of:

a) Opaque liquid coating;

b) A powder filler for a coating;

c) Powder coatings;

d) Ceramic bodies;

e) Glaze

f) Plastic filler;

g) Rubber filler; and,

h) Concentrate.

4. A product as defined in claim 3 wherein said powder is free of particles having a particle size less than about 0.2 microns.

5. A product including a fine grain ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder formed from particles where said powder has a controlled maximum particle size with 99.9% of said particles of said powder having a particle size of less than 10 microns, said fine grain ultra-fine powder comprising 3-25% by weight of said product and has a moisture content of less than 0.8%, and said product being selected from the class consisting of:

a) Clear coating;

b) Sealants;

c) Paper laminates;

d) Aqueous coating;

e) Solvent based coating;

f) UV cured coating;

g) Water based coating with resin free pigment paste;

h) Nitrocellulose clear lacquer;

i) Acrylic lacquer;

j) Clear solvent based acid cured varnish;

k) Aqueous lacquer;

l) Acrylic urethane coating;

m) Aqueous clear PUD urethane coating;

n) 100% solid clear UV coating; and,

o) Concentrate for adding to a final product.

6. A product as defined in claim 5 wherein said powder is free of particles having a particle size less than about 0.2 microns.

7. A coating for a product, said coating comprising a fine grain ultra-fine powder formed from particles of a naturally occurring oxide mineral with no free silica where 99.9% of said particles of said powder having a particle size of less than 10 microns and a moisture content of less than 0.8%, said fine grain ultra-fine powder comprising 3-25% by weight of said coating.

8. A coating for a product as defined in claim 7 wherein said naturally occurring oxide mineral is nepheline syenite.
