Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion with a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, and a front portion. The golf club head may include an interior cavity. The interior cavity may be filled with an elastic polymer material. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (44)

1 . A golf club head comprising:

a face portion;

a body portion having a toe portion, a hosel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, and an interior cavity, the back portion including a back wall portion with an upper back wall portion, a lower back wall portion, and a ledge portion between the upper back wall portion and the lower back wall portion and extending outwardly from the upper back wall portion; and

at least one port connected to the interior cavity,

wherein the interior cavity is partially or entirely filled with a polymer material from the at least one port,

wherein a width of the interior cavity between the face portion and the upper back wall portion is less than a width of the interior cavity below the ledge portion,

wherein the width of the interior cavity between the face portion and the upper back wall portion is less than a width of the ledge portion,

wherein a width of the interior cavity below the ledge portion is greater than a width of the ledge portion, and

wherein a width of the interior cavity between the face portion and the lower back wall portion is greater than the width of the interior cavity between the face portion and the upper back wall portion.

2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one port is located at or proximate to a periphery of the body portion.

3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one port is located on the back wall portion.

4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one port is located above the ledge portion.

5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one port is located at or below the ledge portion.

6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising at least one mass portion below the ledge portion and being integral with the body portion.

7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising at least one mass portion located farther from the hosel portion than from the toe portion.

8 . A golf club head comprising:

a face portion; and

a body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, and an interior cavity at least 50% filled with a polymer material, the back portion including a back wall portion with an upper back wall portion, a lower back wall portion, and a ledge portion between the upper back wall portion and the lower back wall portion, the ledge portion having a width extending outwardly from the upper back wall portion to the lower back wall portion;

wherein a portion of the interior cavity extends from the face portion to a location vertically below at least a portion of the ledge portion,

wherein a maximum width of the interior cavity is greater than the width of the ledge portion, and

wherein the maximum width of the interior cavity is located closer to the ledge portion than to the sole portion.

9 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one port connected to the interior cavity, wherein the interior cavity is at least 50% filled with a polymer material from the at least one port.

10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one port connected to the interior cavity, wherein the at least one port is located on the back wall portion.

11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one mass portion located below the ledge portion and including a tungsten-based material.

12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one mass portion located farther from the heel portion than from the toe portion, the at least one mass portion being integral with the body portion.

13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one port connected to the interior cavity, wherein the at least one port is located at or below the ledge portion.

14 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising at least one port connected to the interior cavity, wherein the at least one port is located above the ledge portion.

15 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a mass portion located below the maximum width of the interior cavity.

16 . A golf club head comprising:

a face portion;

a body portion having a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, and an interior cavity at least 50% filled with a polymer material, the back portion including a back wall portion;

at least one port connected to the interior cavity;

a first width of the interior cavity located between the face portion and the back wall portion above a horizontal midplane of the body portion;

a second width of the interior cavity located between the face portion and the back wall portion below the horizontal midplane;

a third width of the interior cavity located between the first width and the second width; and

a fourth width defining a distance between an outer surface of the back wall portion above the horizontal midplane and an outer surface of the back wall portion below the horizontal midplane, the distance extending outwardly from the back wall portion,

wherein the second width is greater than the first width,

wherein the third width is greater than the first width and greater than the second width,

wherein the fourth width is greater than the first width, and

wherein the fourth width is less than the third width.

17 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the third width is greater than 50% of a maximum width of the body portion.

18 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the third width defines a maximum width of the interior cavity.

19 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 , wherein the fourth width is greater than the second width.

20 . A golf club head as defined in claim 16 further comprising a mass portion below the third width, wherein the second width is located between the mass portion and the face portion.
