Method for offering a protection policy for a mobile device
One embodiment includes a method for offering a protection policy for a mobile device, the method comprising the steps of providing an application, conducting a test of the mobile device, calculating the risk of protecting the mobile device, and offering an protection policy. The application is configured to operate on the mobile device and to test at least one function of the mobile device. The test is conducted by the application and verifies at least one function of the mobile device through the application. The risk of protecting the mobile device is based upon at least one result of the test. The protection policy for the mobile device is based upon the calculated risk, has a cost, and is offered for purchase to a user of the mobile device.
1. A method for offering protection services for a mobile device, the method comprising the steps of:
providing an application to test at least one function of the mobile device, wherein the application is configured to cause the mobile device to perform testing including background testing to determine a typical operational use or condition of the mobile device and functional testing to test one or more functional aspects of the mobile device;
receiving, by a computing device and from the mobile device, one or more testing results as a result of the application conducting a test of at least one function of the mobile device through the application or an analysis of data collected from the device by the application to determine the typical operational use or condition of the mobile device;
calculating, by the computing device, a risk associated with providing one or more offers for protecting the mobile device based on the one or more testing results;
determining whether to present, to a user of the mobile device, an offer relating to the mobile device, wherein the offer is based on the calculated risk and has a cost; and
if the calculated risk indicates that the mobile device is insurable, providing the offer for presentation at the mobile device to the user.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the offer comprises an offer for a protection policy.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the offer comprises an offer to replace the mobile device.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the offer comprises an offer to repair the mobile device.
5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a request for the offer related to the mobile device.
6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising accepting the request for the offer related to the mobile device based on the risk.
7. The method of claim 5 , further comprising notifying the user of the mobile device of a status of the request through the application.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the application is configured to test at least one of an antenna, a transmitter, a display, a GPS system, a battery, or memory of the mobile device.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device is selected from a group comprising a smart phone, a mobile phone, a PDA, a netbook, a tablet computer, an electronic book reader, a home entertainment device, and a gaming device.
10. The method of claim 1 , comprising:
determining a user profile based on the one or more testing results, wherein the risk is based on the user profile.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether to present the offer comprises determining whether the calculated risk exceeds a risk threshold.
12. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether to present the offer comprises determining not to present the offer if one or more components of the mobile device experienced a failure.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein providing the offer comprises:
sending the offer to the application to cause the application to present the offer to the user of the mobile device.
14. A system comprising:
one or more processors configured to communicate with an application on a mobile device, wherein the application is configured to cause the mobile device to perform testing including background testing to determine a typical operational use or condition of the mobile device and functional testing to test one or more functional aspects of the mobile device; and
a computer-readable medium storing instructions that when executed cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving, from the mobile device, one or more testing results as a result of the application conducting the background testing and the functional testing,
calculating a risk associated with providing an insurance offer for protecting the mobile device based on the one or more testing results, and
determining whether to present the insurance offer to a user of the mobile device, wherein the one or more processors are configured to present the offer to the user of the mobile device if the calculated risk indicates that the mobile device is insurable.
15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the insurance offer comprises a protection offer to repair or replace the mobile device.
16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the operations comprise:
receiving a request for the insurance offer related to the mobile device;
accepting the request for the insurance offer related to the mobile device based on the risk; and
notifying the user of the mobile device of a status of the request through the application.
17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the application is configured to test at least one of an antenna, a transmitter, a display, a global positioning system, a battery, or memory of the mobile device.
18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the operations comprise:
determining a user profile based on the one or more testing results, wherein the risk is based on the user profile.
19. The system of claim 14 , wherein determining whether to present the insurance offer comprises determining whether the calculated risk exceeds a risk threshold.
20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the operations comprise:
sending the insurance offer to the application to cause the application to present the insurance offer to the user of the mobile device.
21. The system of claim 14 , wherein determining whether to present the insurance offer comprises determining not to present the insurance offer if one or more components of the mobile device experienced a failure.
22. A system comprising:
one or more processors configured to communicate with an application on a mobile device, wherein the application is configured to cause the mobile device to perform testing including background testing to determine a typical operational use or condition of the mobile device and functional testing to test one or more functional aspects of the mobile device; and
a computer-readable medium storing instructions that when executed cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving, from the mobile device, one or more testing results as a result of the application conducting the background testing and the functional testing,
calculating a risk associated with providing an offer relating to the mobile device based on the one or more testing results, and
determining whether to present the offer to a user of the mobile device, wherein the one or more processors are configured to present the offer to the user of the mobile device if the calculated risk indicates that the mobile device has a resell value.
23. The system of claim 22 , wherein the offer comprises an offer for a protection policy or a protection offer to repair or replace the mobile device.
24. The system of claim 22 , wherein the offer is based on a used-product pricing.
25. The system of claim 22 , wherein the application is configured to test at least one of an antenna, a transmitter, a display, a global positioning system, a battery, or memory of the mobile device.
26. The system of claim 22 , wherein the operations comprise:
sending the offer to the application to cause the application to present the offer to the user of the mobile device.
