Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion with a toe portion, a heel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a back portion, and a front portion. The golf club head may include an interior cavity. The interior cavity may be filled with an elastic polymer material. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (38)

1 . A golf club head comprising:

a hollow body portion having a toe portion, a hosel portion, a top portion, and a sole portion;

at least one port;

an interior cavity connected to the at least one port and configured to receive a cavity filling material through the at least one port, the interior cavity having a first width located above a horizontal midplane of the golf club head, a second width located below the horizontal midplane, and a third width located between the first and second widths;

at least one mass portion coupled to the body portion at or below the horizontal midplane, the at least one mass portion located at a different location than the at least one port and located farther from the hosel portion than the toe portion,

wherein the third width is a maximum width of the interior cavity, and

wherein the second width is greater than the first width.

2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one mass portion comprises a tungsten-based material with a mass of at least two grams.

3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one mass portion is integral with the body portion and comprises the same material as the material of the body portion.

4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one port is located at or proximate a periphery of the body portion.

5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one port is located on a back wall portion of a back portion of the body portion.

6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the third width is located above the at least one mass portion.

7 . A golf club head comprising:

a face portion;

a body portion comprising a first material, the body portion having a toe portion, a hosel portion, a top portion, a sole portion, a front portion, and a back portion, a maximum height between the top and sole portions, and a maximum width between the front and back portions being less than the maximum height;

at least one port;

an interior cavity enclosed by the body portion and the face portion, the interior cavity being connected to the at least one port and configured to receive a cavity filling material through the at least one port;

at least one mass portion comprising a second material, the at least one mass portion coupled to the body portion at or below a horizontal midplane of the golf club head, the at least one mass portion located at a different location than the at least one port and located farther from the hosel portion than the toe portion,

wherein the interior cavity comprises a first width, a second width located below the horizontal midplane, and a third width between the first and second widths, and

wherein the third width is a maximum width of the interior cavity.

8 . A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the at least one mass portion is located below the third width.

9 . A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the first material is the same as the second material.

10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the at least one mass portion comprises a tungsten-based material with a mass of at least two grams.

11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the second width is between the at least one mass portion and the face portion.

12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the at least one port is located at or proximate a periphery of the body portion.

13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 7 , wherein the at least one port is located at or below the horizontal midplane.

14 . A golf club head comprising:

a hollow body portion having a maximum height, a toe portion, a front portion, a back portion having an upper back wall portion, an interior cavity having a maximum width, a port located at or proximate to the toe portion and connected to the interior cavity, the port being configured to receive a non-metal material;

a ledge portion extending outwardly from the upper back wall portion;

at least one mass portion integral with the body portion, the at least one mass portion located below a horizontal midplane of the golf club head,

wherein the maximum width of the interior cavity is above the at least one mass portion, and

wherein the maximum height of the body portion is greater than the maximum width of the interior cavity.

15 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the at least one mass portion is located farther from the hosel portion than the toe portion.

16 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the at least one port is located at or proximate a periphery of the body portion.

17 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the at least one port is located at or proximate to a back wall portion of the back portion.

18 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the at least one port is located at or below the horizontal midplane.

19 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the maximum width of the interior cavity is below the ledge portion.

20 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein a portion of the interior cavity defining the maximum width of the interior cavity is vertically below the ledge portion.
