Abstract

Disclosed is a light emitting device and a method of manufacturing the same. The light emitting device includes a body, a first electrode installed in the body and a second electrode separated from the first electrode, a light emitting chip formed on one of the first and second electrodes, and electrically connected to the first and second electrodes, and a protective cap projecting between the first and second electrodes.

Claims (43)

1. A light emitting device, comprising:

a body;

a first electrode having a first top portion and a first bottom portion, the first top portion of the first electrode including a first protrusion that protrudes along a first lateral side of the first bottom portion of the first electrode;

a second electrode having a second top portion and a second bottom portion separated from the first electrode, the second top portion of the second electrode including a second protrusion that protrudes along a second lateral side of the second bottom portion of the second electrode;

at least one light emitting chip disposed on the first electrode, wherein the at least one light emitting chip is electrically connected to both of the first electrode and the second electrode; and

a protective member being in direct contact with both the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the protective member has a narrower top surface and a wider bottom surface,

wherein the first electrode includes a first recess region recessed inward from a lateral surface of the body at a first end portion including two end portions exposed in a first portion of the lateral side of the body, wherein the first electrode includes a first step structure on a lateral surface of the first recess region,

wherein the second electrode includes a second recess region recessed inward from a lateral surface of the body at a second end portion including two end portions exposed in a second portion of the lateral side of the body, wherein the second electrode includes a second step structure on a lateral surface of the second recess region,

wherein the first electrode includes a first groove recessed in a top surface of the first electrode, wherein the first groove is spaced apart from one side of the at least one light emitting chip.

2. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the first grove is disposed along an outer peripheral portion of the light emitting chip.

3. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the first recess region is filled with a material of the body and coupled with the body.

4. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the lateral surfaces of each the first recess region and the second recess region has a curved side surface.

5. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a bottom surface of the first bottom portion of the first electrode is exposed to the body.

6. The light emitting device of claim 1 , further comprising an encapsulant including a luminescence material on the body.

7. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the first electrode or the second electrode has at least one hole filled with a material of the body.

8. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first protrusion or the second protrusion is embedded in the body.

9. The light emitting device of claim 8 , wherein the first protrusion is extended along the first lateral side in a first direction and the second protrusion is extended along the second lateral side in the first direction, and

wherein the first protrusion and the second protrusion are symmetrical and are overlapped with each other in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction.

10. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode includes a third recess recessed inward from a first lateral surface of the first bottom portion of the first electrode or the second bottom portion of the second electrode in the body.

11. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a corner region of the first electrode or the second electrode has a curved surface recessed inward from the first electrode or the second electrode.

12. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the first recess region and the second recess region correspond to opposite sides of the body.

13. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the protective member is in contact with the first electrode having a first lateral inclined side and the second electrode having a second lateral inclined side.

14. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the protective member includes a first portion having a gradually increasing width between the first lateral inclined side of the first electrode and the second lateral inclined side of the second electrode.

15. The light emitting device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode includes at least two holes that pass through the first electrode or the second electrode.

16. A light emitting device, comprising:

a body having a first length in a first direction and a second length in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction;

a first electrode having a planar top surface and a planar bottom surface in the body;

a second electrode separated from the first electrode and having a planar top surface and a planar bottom surface in the body, and

at least one light emitting chip disposed on at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode, the at least one light emitting chip electrically connected to both of the first electrode and the second electrode by a plurality of wires;

wherein the first electrode

includes a first end portion including two end portions exposed in a first portion of a lateral surface of the body,

wherein the second electrode includes a second end portion including two end portions exposed in a second portion of a lateral surface of body,

wherein a first portion of the first electrode connected to the planar top surface of the first electrode includes a first protrusion that protrudes along a first lateral surface connected to the planar bottom surface of the first electrode,

wherein a second portion of the second electrode connected to the planar top surface of the second electrode protrudes along a fourth lateral surface connected to the planar bottom surface of the second electrode,

wherein the first electrode comprises a first curved side surface of a first recess region recessed inward from the lateral surface of the body at the first end portion, the first recess region being disposed within the body,

wherein the second electrode comprises a second curved side surface of a second recess region recessed inward from the lateral surface of the body at the second end portion, the second recess being disposed within the body,

wherein an upper portion and a lower portion of a lateral surface of the first recess region includes a first step structure, and

wherein an upper portion and a lower portion of a lateral surface of the second recess includes a second step structure.

17. The light emitting device of claim 16 , further comprising a zener diode disposed on the first electrode or the second electrode on which the at least one light emitting chip is not disposed.

The light emitting device of claim 16 , further comprising a spacer being in contact with the first electrode having a lateral inclined side and the second electrode having a lateral inclined side such that the spacer includes a first portion having a gradually increasing width between the lateral inclined side of the first electrode and the lateral inclined side of the second electrode, and

wherein at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode includes at least two holes that pass through the first electrode or the second electrode.

19. The light emitting device of claim 16 , wherein the first electrode includes a first groove recessed in the planar top surface of the first electrode, wherein the first groove is spaced apart from one side of the at least one light emitting chip.

20. The light emitting device of claim 16 , wherein the first recess region and the second recess region correspond to opposite sides of the body.
