Abstract

In a display device including a flexible display panel, the risk of disconnection of a wiring due to bending is reduced. A display panel includes a display function layer including display elements and a wiring on one major surface of a base material having flexibility. The display panel includes, on the one major surface of the base material, an organic-film-covered wiring area where the surface of the wiring is covered with an organic planarization film that is an organic insulating film in direct contact with the wiring. The display panel includes, in the plane thereof, a display area where the display elements are arranged and a component mounting area that is a peripheral area located outside the display area. As the organic-film-covered wiring area, a curved area is provided in the peripheral area.

Claims (42)

1. A display device comprising:

a display panel including a display area and a peripheral area outside the display area;

a wiring located in the peripheral area;

a first organic insulating film under the wiring and in contact with the wiring; and

a second organic insulating film on the wiring and in contact with the wiring,

wherein the display panel has a first surface which is an opposite side of the wiring from the second organic insulating film,

a distance between the first surface and the wiring includes a first distance at a first portion and a second distance at a second portion, the first and second portions being located in the peripheral area,

the second portion is between the first portion and the display area, and

the first distance is smaller than the second distance.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the second organic insulating film has a first thickness and a second thickness different from the first thickness.

3. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the second organic insulating film covers a top surface and a side surface of the wiring.

4. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the first organic insulating film is a first resin film.

5. The display device according to claim 4 , wherein the first resin film includes polyimide.

6. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein a first inorganic film is located between the first surface and the wiring at the second portion and is not located at the first portion.

7. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the distance includes a third distance at a third portion located between the second portion and the display area, and

the second distance is smaller than the third distance.

8. The display device according to claim 7 , wherein a first inorganic film is located between the first surface and the wiring at the second and third portions and is not located at the first portion, and

a second inorganic film is located between the first inorganic film and the wiring at the third portion and is not located at the first and second portions.

9. The display device according to claim 8 , wherein the wiring, each of the first and second organic insulating films, and the first and second inorganic insulating films is located both the display area and the peripheral area continuously.

10. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein each of the wiring and the first and second organic insulating films is located both the display area and the peripheral area continuously.

11. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the peripheral area includes a curved area where the first organic insulating film are curved, and

the first portion is in the curved area.

12. The display device according to claim 11 , wherein a second resin film is located on the second organic insulating film in the curved area.

13. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein a second resin film is located on the second organic insulating film in at least a part of the peripheral area.

14. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the first organic insulating film has a first thickness at the first portion and a second thickness at the second portion, and

the first thickness is smaller than the second thickness.

15. A display device comprising:

a display panel including a curved area;

a wiring, a part of the wiring located in the curved area;

a first organic insulating film under the wiring and in contact with the wiring; and

a second organic insulating film on the wiring and in contact with the wiring,

wherein the display panel has a first surface which is an opposite side of the wiring from the second organic insulating film,

a distance between the first surface and the wiring includes a first distance at a first portion and a second distance at a second portion, the first portion being located in the curved area, and

the first distance is smaller than the second distance.

16. The display device according to claim 15 , wherein the second portion is located outside the curved area.

17. The display device according to claim 15 , wherein the second organic insulating film has a first thickness and a second thickness different from the first thickness.

18. The display device according to claim 15 , wherein the first organic insulating film includes polyimide.

19. The display device according to claim 15 , wherein a first inorganic film is located between the first surface and the wiring at the second portion and is not located at the first portion.

20. The display device according to claim 15 , wherein the distance includes a third distance at a third portion located at an opposite side of the second portion from the first portion,

a first inorganic film is located between the first surface and the wiring at the second and third portions and is not located at the first portion,

a second inorganic film is located between the first inorganic film and the wiring at the third portion and is not located at the first and second portions, and

the second distance is smaller than the third distance.
