Bag for enclosing a cushion
A bag for enclosing a cushion is disclosed. The bag comprises a tubular sleeve having first and second end pieces coupled to first and second longitudinal ends thereof, a plurality of reinforcing straps encircling a circumference of the tubular sleeve, and at least one handle extending between the plurality of reinforcing straps. The at least one handle is configured to lay flush against the tubular sleeve during shipping. Methods for packaging and shipping a cushion in the bag include roll packing a cushion into a cylindrical shape, disposing the cushion in a compressed form into the bag, and shipping the bag to a customer without inserting the bag in any other container. Methods of unpacking the cushion from the bag includes uncoupling the first end piece from the tubular sleeve, opening the tubular sleeve along a longitudinal length thereof, and unrolling the compressed cushion to an expanded form.
1. A bag for enclosing a cushion, the bag comprising:
a tubular sleeve having a first longitudinal end and a second longitudinal end; and
a first end piece coupled to the first longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve, the first end piece being at least partially removable from the first longitudinal end;
a first reinforcing strap extending about a circumference of the tubular sleeve proximate to the first longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve;
a second reinforcing strap extending about the circumference of the tubular sleeve distal and spaced apart from the first reinforcing strap;
a first handle comprising a first end coupled to the first reinforcing strap and a second end coupled to the second reinforcing strap;
a second handle, circumferentially spaced apart from the first handle, the second handle comprising a first end coupled to the first reinforcing strap and a second end coupled to the second reinforcing strap; and
a zipper attached about the circumference of the tubular sleeve adjacent to the first longitudinal end.
2. The bag of claim 1 , wherein the first handle and the second handle lie flat against the tubular sleeve.
3. The bag of claim 1 , wherein the first reinforcing strap, the second reinforcing strap, the first handle, and the second handle are each comprised of a woven fabric.
4. The bag of claim 1 , further comprising the cushion in a rolled, compressed configuration and disposed in the tubular sleeve.
5. The bag of claim 4 , further comprising a polymeric enclosure disposed about the cushion.
6. The bag of claim 4 , wherein the first reinforcing strap and the second reinforcing strap are configured to prevent expansion of a compressed mattress within the tubular sleeve.
7. The bag of claim 1 , wherein the tubular sleeve comprises a polymeric material.
8. The bag of claim 7 , wherein the tubular sleeve comprises a flexible, thermoplastic polymer.
9. The bag of claim 7 , wherein the polymeric material is selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, and polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified.
10. The bag of claim 1 , further comprising:
a second end piece coupled to the second longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve; and
a second zipper attached about a circumference of the tubular sleeve adjacent to the second longitudinal end.
11. The bag of claim 1 , further comprising a slitter disposed in the tubular sleeve, the slitter comprising a grip portion, a guide portion, and a blade located in an opening defined between the grip portion and the guide portion.
12. The bag of claim 1 , further comprising:
a third reinforcing strap extending about a circumference of the tubular sleeve and longitudinally spaced apart from the first reinforcing strap and the second reinforcing strap; and
a fourth reinforcing strap extending about the circumference of the tubular sleeve proximate to the second longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve and longitudinally spaced apart from the first reinforcing strap, the second reinforcing strap, and the third reinforcing strap.
13. A bag for enclosing a mattress in a rolled, compressed configuration, the bag comprising:
a tubular sleeve having a seam, a first longitudinal end, a second longitudinal end opposite from the first longitudinal end, and a length that corresponds to a length of the rolled, compressed configuration of the mattress;
a first reinforcing strap extending about a circumference of the tubular sleeve proximate to the first longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve;
a second reinforcing strap extending about the circumference of the tubular sleeve distal and spaced apart from the first reinforcing strap;
a first handle comprising a first end coupled to the first reinforcing strap and a second end coupled to the second reinforcing strap;
a second handle, circumferentially spaced apart from the first handle and the seam, the second handle comprising a first end coupled to the first reinforcing strap and a second end coupled to the second reinforcing strap; and
a zipper extending along a length of the tubular sleeve along the seam between the first longitudinal end and the second longitudinal end.
14. The bag of claim 13 , wherein the first handle and second handle lie flat against the tubular sleeve.
15. The bag of claim 13 , wherein the first reinforcing strap, the second reinforcing strap, the first handle, and the second handle are each comprised of a woven fabric of the same composition.
16. The bag of claim 13 , further comprising:
a polymeric enclosure that holds the mattress in the rolled, compressed configuration.
17. The bag of claim 16 , wherein the polymeric enclosure is configured to prevent expansion of the mattress in the rolled, compressed configuration.
18. The bag of claim 13 , further comprising:
a first end piece coupled to the first longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve; and
a second end piece coupled to the second longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve.
19. The bag of claim 13 , further comprising:
a third reinforcing strap extending about a circumference of the tubular sleeve and longitudinally spaced apart from the first reinforcing strap and the second reinforcing strap; and
a fourth reinforcing strap extending about the circumference of the tubular sleeve proximate to the second longitudinal end of the tubular sleeve and longitudinally spaced apart from the first reinforcing strap, the second reinforcing strap, and the third reinforcing strap.
20. The bag of claim 13 , the first reinforcing strap and the second reinforcing strap are configured to prevent expansion of the mattress in the rolled, compressed configuration within the tubular sleeve.
