Abstract

Provisioning commercial-free or break-free media content. Example types of media or media content may include advertising media, broadcast media, social media, news media, and etc. In a satellite broadcast television implementation, subscribers may be provided the ability to search for and optionally access commercial-free programming.

Claims (67)

1. A device, comprising:

one or more processing devices; and

memory communicatively coupled with and readable by the one or more processing devices, the one or more processing devices configured to perform actions including:

causing output of a list of media content to cause display of the list of media content with a display, the list including indicators as to which items of the media content include one or more breaks for one or more advertisements;

processing a search string entered via a user interface to identify instances of media content matched with at least a portion of the search string;

performing a search for break-free media content, the performing the search comprising querying a plurality of different data sources, the plurality of different data sources comprising at least one storage device comprising recorded content to identify instances of media content matched with at least the portion of the search string;

creating a list of results of the search for break-free media content that includes only identified instances of break-free media content matched with at least the portion of the search string, the creating the list of results comprising organizing the identified instances of break-free media content according to a priority order based at least in part on differentiation of respective sources from which the identified instances of break-free media content are available; and

causing output of a results interface that presents the list of results via the display with a respective selectable identifier associated with each instance of the identified instances of break-free media content so that each instance of the identified instances of break-free media content is differentiated based at least in part on the respective source from which the instance is available, wherein a first instance of the identified instances of break-free media content and a second instance of the identified instances of break-free media content each correspond to a same content item, where the first instance of the identified instances of break-free media content is available from a first source, and the second instance of the identified instances of break-free media content is available from a second source.

2. The device of claim 1 , the actions further comprising:

detecting an indication of selection of one of the selectable identifiers associated with the identified instances of break-free media content; and

receiving a search string entered via a user interface to identify instances of media content matched with at least a portion of the search string;

performing a search for break-free media content, the performing the search comprising querying a plurality of different data sources, the plurality of different data sources comprising at least one storage device comprising recorded content to identify instances of media content matched with at least the portion of the search string;

creating a list of results of the search for break-free media content that includes only identified instances of break-free media content matched with at least the portion of the search string, the creating the list of results comprising organizing the identified instances of break-free media content according to a priority order based at least in part on differentiation of respective sources from which the identified instances of break-free media content are available; and

causing output of a results interface that presents the list of results via the display with a respective selectable identifier associated with each instance of the identified instances of break-free media content so that each instance of the identified instances of break-free media content is differentiated based at least in part on the respective source from which the instance is available, wherein a first instance of the identified instances of break-free media content and a second instance of the identified instances of break-free media content each correspond to a same content item, where the first instance of the identified instances of break-free media content is available from a first source, and the second instance of the identified instances of break-free media content is available from a second source.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
